Been wondering if anybody has had any success playing the N64 version of Resident Evil 2 via an emulator on a modded original Xbox? I'm thinking about doing a playthrough but have had little success getting this gem to work and it would be a lot nicer to play through on my Xbox rather than digging my old N64 out and hooking it up....
Thoughts and settings/emulator names appreciated!

It may just be a bad rom, or you may just have to upgrade your ram, I've had like the Adams family start to play then just stop on me and glitch out.

Gotcha, that's what I figured. Looks like I either play the PS version of dig the N64 out. I really wanted to play through the N64 version as it seems like it has the most additional content.

Ok time to put some fallacies to rest. First off the PS1 edition of RE2 is far far far superior to the N64 version (take it from me Im a RE junky and own every edition for every console). Next you can run the PS1 version on the XBOX using an emu but its choppy and requires some serious tweaking of the settings to run proper. And finaly XBOX-Scene is full of shit you can run RE2 on the PJ64, you just need to configure your emu properly for it and use a good ROM. I use PJ64 and RICE6.12. I get a little garbeled audio now and then but otherwise it runs pretty good.
But if you want the classic RE experience use a PC based PS1 Emu and play em or else use the the versions made for PC. Capcom was giving away the RE3 Nemesis- Xplosiv Edition for PC not to long ago

sppv, nice! I'm a HUGE RE fan myself and, oddly enough, RE2 is the only game I haven't played through. Love to pick your brain on why you think the PSx version is the definitive. I was merely going by some RE wikipedia information attesting to the bonus material in RE2 N64, i.e. the N64 specific alt. costumes, the violence/blood color options, the object randomizer and what some wiki's call "a more responsive first-person control scheme" (whatever that means) and the higher-quality music/surround. Most of that stuff doesn't bother me, but I am a bit of a completist and I also like to play the most definitive version of a game as I have the multiple consoles/emulators to do so. How do you feel RE2 PSx is stronger than RE2 N64? Again, I have no basis or preference as I have played through neither, just love to get the thoughts of a fellow experienced RE gamer.
Just played through the PSx version of RE1 on my PSP. Tried out the Arranged Mode which I'd never played through before -- very nice way to re-experience an old favourite.

The main reason for the PS being superior is data limitations. The cartidge can only hold about 240MB of data where as the PS1 was 2 700mb discs. On the N64 because of this they downscaled alot of the scenes and reuse a bunch of scenes. The N64 version is also shorter by about 4 hours if I remember correctly. The PC version has everything from both and was the best version out of all them.
You definatly dont want to miss out on RE2 it was an awsome game and if youve played RE3:Nemesis you will recognize a lot and get to go into those rooms in the police station you couldnt get into in RE3.
Virtualy any PC can run it I think it was like a 733mhz cpu and 64mb video for the reqs and I think you can still download it from the official Resident Evil page.

@ sppv: Further to all of that, what are your Surreal Settings to run RE2 N64 via Project64? I have Surreal64 CE B5.5 which, as far as I can tell, is the newest version. I try running RE2 via Project 64 with the following Settings:
VIDEO:
Flicker Filter: 1
Soft Display Filter: No
Texture Filter: Anisotropic
Vertex: Hard Vertex
Skip Frames: No
Vsync: No
Enaple 720p: No
AntiAliasing: None
EMULATOR:
Emulator: Project64
Video Plugin: Rice 6.1.2
Audio Plugin: Jttl
RSP Plugin: High Level
Enable RSP Audio: No
Rom Paging Method: XXX
Max Video Memory: 4MB
Are these matching your settings? When I run RE2 N64 I get a back screen, nothing happens but I'm not freezing up (i.e. I can change controller options like MemPack, RumblePack, etc. and I can still reset the Xbox with my controller).
Any help is greatly appreciated! Mostly so I can get a handle on how to use Surreal better!!

Hahaha! We were posting at the exact same moment! I see what you're saying about RE2 N64, looks like I should endeavour to get my hands on the PC version then or just play through the PSX version!!
I still wouldn't mind getting those Surreal settings from you though, just to see if I can get it to run.
Nice to chat with a fellow RE fan! I'm looking to playthrough all the old ones over the course of the summer. I felt a bit let down my RE5 after how stunning RE4 was but, to be fair, I haven't played much co-op RE5 which is apparently fantastic.

I just use the stock emu settings. Im using PJ64CE XXX. Only stuff I pick/change is PJ64 and RICE 612. And a ROM I made myself from my RE2 cartridge. RE5 is awsome. I didnt like it at first then I grabbed the Gold Edition and started playing Mercenaries now I love it. I still play 4 the most though and Nemesis beats 5 hands down for fun as far as the main game goes, but Lost in Nightmares and RE5 Mercenaries destroys Nemesis Mercenary. If you wanna try out some co-op just let me know I have 5 on PC and 360

Love to! That's be awesome! I'll pm you my 360 username. Been awhile since I played RE5 though I'll have to bone up before I make a compete fool of myself!
Nemesis was the second RE game I played through and I can't even really remember the Mercenaries Mode on that one... I remember a mini-game unlockable where you had to race against a clock and get people out of the city or something like that? My brain's a bit fuzzy on that one! I haven't finished Lost in Nightmares yet but it looks AMAZING!
Anyway, PM coming your way!

That little unlockable game was the very first RE Mercenary mode. The nice thing about the Xplosiv edition is you didnt need to beat the game you could go straight to Mercenary make some coin buy an unlimited assault rifle then go in on pro and kick the piss out of Nemesis and get the bonus guns you wouldnt normaly see

Nice! I've only played through Nemesis once and I didn't find out you could even kill him each time and get gun parts until I was 3/4 through so I've always wanted to go back and check that out.
