I am having a hard time getting xbox games to play across my lan. I have two routers on the network, both with the dd-wrt firmware. Those are configured properly since everything else works. The xboxes can ping each other, xbmc autodetect works to transfer files, etc.
So if I go into halo or wolfenstein and start a server, the other xbox can see it, but fails to connect to it. This happens regardless of which box actually hosts the game.
I don't believe there are any firewall issues, which is the only reason I think there would be this problem. I am not a networking genius so I don't know if I have to port forward even though there is no firewall, and if that is even possible with dhcp.

how many routers are assigning dhcp?
i myself have 3 xbox's running on wireless.
one router and two ap's.
when we play, i turn off dhcp and let the xboxes do their thing.

One router running dhcp. The other router assigned a static IP.
The xbox on the client router is getting an IP.
So you are saying you turn off dhcp all together? Just let the xboxes think they are connected point to point?

I would start off by assigning static ips to each xbox, that way they can't change. Then if that doesn't work you may have to look into how your network is setup. _________________

Funny thing is all the old pc ports like doom and quake play just fine across the network as it is. I guess I'll have to start over like you said with static ips then try to forward the ports and see what happens.

yes, i turn off my dhcp server.
i do not set a static address either.
i just let the xboxes figure it out themselves.

If you don't assign a static IP address and if you turn off your DHCP server then there is no way that the Xbox could get an ip address. _________________

In most routers these days they have an option where you can set/assign each item on your network a static ip address even though your running DHCP.. Check in your router, all i need to do is turn on everything with a dhcp set then go into my router admin config and tick the box so that is uses the same IP everytime. This way you can ftp and whatever to the same ip everytime.
hope that helps. there are many ways to setup things depending on your homenetwork, i used to run static everything but now i have this option in my router so i run DHCP now. _________________ HQ Network:
