I want to softmod my xbox, but don't have anything that anything says I need, and I can't get this stuff. Is there any way I could softmod my xbox with just a CD?
Also, I have no way connect my Xbox to any networks of any kind, and I have a bunch of 4.7GB discs, some 700MB discs, and a working disk burner (application and hardware).

You have to get one of the games to softmod it. An unmodded xbox can not boot discs that are not signed content by Microsoft.
Once you get it modded you can put your DVD burner to work by downloading AID from here and burning it to a disc. It will let you install anything you want on your xbox. _________________

There is one way, but its a little bit risky if you ask me....ill mention it, but i do not suggest it.
There is whats called a hot swap (click the link in my sig for a tutorial) and if you had a HDD set up with a softmod already or knew where to put the right files, you could perform a hotswap with the softmod files on it already, which makes things much easier......again i do NOT suggest this but if you cant get a modchip or the correct items for a softmod then this may be the ONLY way you can mod your xbox.

Go with the softmod game exploit method, hot swapping can drive you batshit till you get the hang of unlocking and swapping out the drives.
I found finding a memory card was the biggest obstical so I just used a USB SD card reader and 512mb Sandisk SD card. You can usualy find Splinter Cell on Ebay for around $5 and Gameshark/Action Replay can usualy be obtained there as well.
The other thing you may run into is copying the games saves onto a card with Gameshark/Action Replay works best on an XP based machine (it will work on Vista or 7 but requires alot of tweaking) it will recognize the controller/card right away and automaticaly install the required drivers
If you live in Canada I can even sell you a Splinter Cell game, Gameshark and Mem card

Dont forget though if you buy the mem card you have to have a way to transfer the files from PC to MEM Card, so i suggest looking at the Action Replay and see if you can find one that comes with its own mem card. _________________ Hotswap Tutorial|FTP Tutorial|HyperX Flashing Tutorial

You are better off with an MS card since there are a ton of threads on here about the action replay cards not reading.

Ya but my question is how do you get the files from PC to the card without the action replay device which will most likely come with a mem card that is worth trying before buying another card which could potentially be a waste of mulah! _________________ Hotswap Tutorial|FTP Tutorial|HyperX Flashing Tutorial

forget the action replay hardware you just want the software. make your own breakaway cable in 2 minutes, just splice to a USB cable ignore the yellow, or if you prefer wire a female USB in via 4th controller port
I kinda figured it was common knowledge and in most tutorials so I just didnt mention it
XP has always installed the drivers automaticaly for me works great and is the easiest route in my opinion

Well, thats one way of doing it, or you can do it the opposite way and make it where you can plug a USB device into the xbox controller port. Then use the tutorial that wes supplied earlier on. _________________ Hotswap Tutorial|FTP Tutorial|HyperX Flashing Tutorial

I only suggest the breakaway cable method because it removes the need for a program like USB view, and I found it quite hard to find a thumbdrive that would work. Around here a 512mb or 1GB thumbdrive are unheard of and none of my 4 or 8gb ones worked.
It really is the easiest of the methods for transferring the save files especialy if you are using XP since it auto recognizes it as a MS controller and installs drivers for you. The only issue as mentioned before some 3rd party cards dont work. Madcatz 8mb and MS cards work fine though
