OK. I have been using SID 4.5 for a month or so doing softmods, mostly with good results. I had recently softmodded and installed a larger hd on my first 1.6 box using telnet and chimp. Everything was good to go on this box.
Yesterday, I was testing a few games to make sure they were good before selling them on ebay. After 5 or 6 games, I put ht Star Wars - The Clone Wars ( part on a 2 game set with Tetris) in to play. It said something about loading new software and then I got put at a MS dashboard.
I tried booting AID. No Go. I tried rerunning the Mechassault exploit but Mechassault just keeps restarting.
The xbox live menu that shows at booyup is rather strange, too. It only has 3 choices - account mamangement, New Account, and network Setup. None of them seem to work. I can't seem to get to the standard MS dashboard.
I figure, worst case, I can put in the old hd in and re CHIMP it. However, if there is an easier way I'd like to hear it.
They made the comment that this should not have happened because
"A properly done softmod protects the softmod against dashboard overwrites. It uses a shadowc drive when it is operational, and it has the real C partition filled up completely so that a dashboard update attempt fails due to lack of free space."
I used the option that says "Virtual C + Eeprom for HD"
So my questions are:
1. Is than an easier way to fix than switching hds?
2. How can I avoid this in the future

The way you listed is the fastest cheapest way to fix your error and to keep this from happening again i would say dont boot that game.

Do I have to unlock it before copying the partitions?
What about the OP contention that a properly modded box wouldn't have had this problem?
