I'm confused here, your talking about old xboxes and mod chips for it, and then your talking about 360 games and the red ring which are both for the xbox 360. Are you having a problem with both or just the old xbox or what? _________________

When the original xbox messes up, the ring flashes red and i think orange.
I heard of this before,so i think your xbox overheated and fried something inside.

No it's not that, it's just that his chip is sending the signal through the D0 to boot from the LPC port and the chip isn't seated right. He needs to reseat the chip on the LPC port. _________________

ya, he tends to say things sometimes that you just don't get lol.....anyway, i agree with darth, and if its not that, it may be VERY possible that the graphics on the motherboard have gone out as well.
are you taking about the mod chip which is soldered to the board or some other chip

Yes the modchip. It should have a pin head that is soldered to the board. You should just be able to remove the mod chip, and then reseat it on the pin head again. _________________

the chip is glued to the side of the case with double sided tape, there are three connectors ,one going to the front with three switches the other from the chip to the board, and three wires soldered to the other side of the mother board all are connected, on the left corner of the board is a white residue the rest of the board looks fine
