Alright, so I have a softmodded Xbox, and a friend of mine is giving me an Xbox for free, except it doesn't have a hard drive. My question is, would it be possible to clone the HDD in my softmodded Xbox right now, or will that not lock it? How would I lock the HDD? Will it even work on a console that doesn't have a chip installed? Is there a specific type/brand of hard drive I need to buy? Thanks in advance!

There might be an easier way to do it, but you could use xboxhdm which would let you pull the eeprom off of the xbox mobo through the ide cable. There's a tutorial on it here somewhere that I remember wes linking me to a long time ago, and it worked.
Yeah, you are going to have to have a drive that will lock, there is a list up here, but other drives not on the list might work, so if you have some laying around give them a try. Keep in mind that its probably easier just to find a chip than to go out and find a drive that you are positive is going to work.

While we love the enthusiasm you are showing bro you might want to check the dates on the topics your posting on, well over half your posts are in threads that have been dead 2 or more years man.
