Hello! I am desperately seeking help for a problem I have been trying to solve for 2 weeks. I have t3ch 9.04.1 build running on a softmodded Xbox plugged into a wireless ethernet bridge. Upstairs I have a Dell Inspiron with a 500gb hard drive plugged directly into my g wireless router. Internet works great. Problem is, when I turn on XBMC, it can never find folders/files on the network hard drive. After I go upstairs, power down the laptop and power it back up again, XBMC can see the files and folders. Turn off the xbox and turn it back on again, can't access network drive. Any ideas on how I can fix this?? Thanks!

I would suggest upgrading XBMC using Softmod Installer Deluxe or AID.. Actually you could even try XBMC installer deluxe - http://www.aideluxe.com , thats what im currently using.

I have a wireless setup and NAS Server and it works perfect for me running currect XBMCi.. Tech's builds are pretty reliable normally but god knows since i haven't been too active on the xbox1 lately.. Anyone else got some tips?

This link will take you right to the XBMC official guide to network sharing, pick a method and go with it man.

hey,thanks...I've already set up networking--I'm using simple file sharing (smb). There is some setting I appear to be missing, though, since it seems totally hit or miss as to whether xbmc can find my shared network drive. It often requires me to go upstairs and power cycle the laptop/hard drive plugged directly into my router in order for xbmc to see it (xbox plugged into wireless ethernet bridge). I want to know what I have to do so that this problem is fixed...

If you can find a way to get your XBOX plugged in to the router i would think that it would fix the prob.

I can't do that...the router is on another level and I bought this wireless bridge so that it could be wireless. Since it works much of the time I feel like there is a setting somewhere or configuration that might need to be tweaked to make it more consistent...possible? The question is...what changes about the handshake between the laptop/hard drive and the ethernet bridge when the laptop is power cycled so that the xbox then sees the network drive?

So it sounds like your PC and network drive connect to the router and the xbox connects to the PC and finds the network drive there.

Is this right?

Correct, I have a laptop with a 500gb external hard drive plugged into it which is plugged directly into the router. Also have a roaming laptop. Xbox is plugged into wireless ethernet bridge which, when it works, accesses the external drive via the laptop plugged directly into the router. FWIW, the 2 laptops talk to each other over the network and share files, no problem. Xbox/XBMC can see that network drive only when I trudge upstairs and power cycle the laptop plugged directly into the router...

Have you set up the UPNP for all devices, just to see if it helps?

Here is how to fire it up in XP: http://www.bitwiseim.com/wiki/index.php?title=Using_UPnP_on_Windows_XP

As for XBMC you can find the settings for it in the setting under the network settings menu. Wink

Cant say it will fix your probs but its worth a shot. Very Happy

hey wes, i see where you mean in xbmc but since I was using simple file sharing via windows xp on the laptop/hard drive directly plugged into the router, I have the upnp settings totally blank...if I need to change them I can...I just can't understand why my ethernet bridge transmits internet every time, no problem. Just transmitting the network drive via simple file sharing/smb seems to be the issue and the issue is fixed with power cycling the laptop...what changes when I do that and how can I make the change without having to power cycle??

I don't know man, you can keep plugging away at the prob or work around it with a different type of file share.

Other then that its just one of those things i would need to have it in my hands to figure it out. Confused

yeah, problem is I don't know where or what to plug away at next...I'm stumped--this problem doesn't even seem to make logical sense to me...
