To start with I will tell you what happened from the start...I was playing around with the evo x dash and unlocked the hdd and then I lost power so the hdd was unlocked .. so anyways, I pulled out my broken xbox and was going to do a hotswap as http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-161.html says, trying to restore it to the "stock" settings, but the hdd never even turns on??? tried another hdd as for the power and it works just fine, but the hdd that came in the xbox will not turn on??? it will not spin or anything?? so what the f*** can I do about that??? never even got to ftp to or from that xbox so I have nothing to work with _________________ http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php

I would check all your cables to make sure they are hooked up fine.
If your HDD is unlocked it may not start up. I have never been in the situation before so I wouldn't know. Your HDD might have died when the power went out. _________________

all the cables are fine.. I took another hdd and hooked it up to be sure and it worked fine but the xbox hdd doesnt even try and if you leave it hooked up it will get pretty hot (hot enough to burn my finger)?? I will try to put it in my pc just to see if it spins up, but other than that im out of ideas.. will try anything that everyone can think of!! Getting hot but not spinning sounds like a trashed HDD to me man so if you dont have the eeprom and a spare HDD its time to get a chip or an eeprom reader and an HDD for sure.

Yea I have another hdd but I dont have the eeprom so I will look into getting a chip.. when I do though do I need to look for some certain characteristics (i.e. one that supports not having the eeprom) or are they all the samefor the most part?? _________________ http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php

With all chips you don't need the eeprom or to lock the hdd, chips rule.

I know this sounds a bit over the top but it has worked for me many times as a puter tech to start stalled HDD. The problem may be in the drive motor contacts and just need a tap. As some HDD park the heads when not in use this may or may not work.. with the HDD out of the cradle but the power connected. (IDE cable optional) turn the xbox / PC on (this depends what you have it plugged into) and give it a pat on the top while holding it. About as hard as a light clap. Remember the HDD isnt working so no great loss if it doesn't work, but start with a light pat you will hear it and feel it start up if it does.. if it doesn't get a little harder but if it starts quickly back up the data on the HDD, there may be some corrufted files but 95 to 100 % should be fine. This is not a perminent fix so it may do it next time you try to start it . Remember the more times you smack it the more chances of corrupted data. I must say chipping the xbox makes it a hell of a lot easier to throw another HDD in but if you get it going ... well we will deal with that when it happens

I tryed "hitting" it.. started off with a really light tap and went till it was a normal clapping motion and nothing happened.. figured that I could not really mess anything up so I tryed it but nothing.. thank you for the advice though.. if you have any other suggestions im willing to try!! _________________ http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php

Yep it's a BAD BOY sounds like its really stuffed.. used to be funny watching ppl's faces as I'd smack the drive and it would start up though.. The only other thing I'd do would be to give it to wes he might be able to talk it around..... no seriously short of a manual spin up which I wouldnt advise (taking the drive apart) I'd say it's out of here
