On what to install. First off I'd like to say hello.
I'm fairly new here, but I been peeping the forums for quite a
bit. Reading random bits here and there. I just got my box going fam.
I used the method here http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/postp156651.html although I didnt have no luck with the data traveller, but once I got a memory card everything went fine. I also used a different game save than the one mentioned in the tutorial. Everything seems fine cause I got the unleashx dsahboard, etc etc.
I'm just wondering what else is good to install. I also came across the
Auto-Installer.Deluxe.v4.40 and had that insall all the applications so I got the xbmc in my E:/APPS. I had the autoinstall install the emulators but for some reason under emulators on the unleashx dashboard they did not show up. They are in the right place like the apps. Weird thing is that the emulators showed up on the XBMC emu option but not under unleashx. I think I have an older dash of unleashx as mine is v 0.37. Not sure if it would be good to update this or not. I'm thinking it will. I might install a bigger harddrive in the future, but at the moment I'm not worried about. I'm fine running the emulators with roms on disc, although I'm sure I can store some directly to the xbox drive. I'm still waiting for a cat5 cable so I can do ftb, and I might get xbox live or something so I can use it with the web. I'm just basically wondering if y'all can shed some light on some cool stuff for a newbie to check out. Anyhelp would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Check out the emulators for the xbox for sure. One of the best parts of having a modded xbox. _________________

I use mine as a media server and streaming system as that is what XBMC can do best, as for unleashx i don't know what there last build was but for the most part what you see is what you get.

Sometimes on unleashX you need to go to your emulators menu and push start and then go down to refresh and it should show them.. also turning the xbox off and then turning it on might work as well.. just for future times you should go to the menu (ex. emulators) and push start and choose the refresh option and it should show up then.. as far as programs adn stuff there are LOTS of things for the xbox, just have to look around sometimes to find it! Enjoy!

Cool guys. Thanks for the post. What do you mean by media server and streaming system?? Sounds interesting. Do you stream music
from it?? So I'm assuming you'd have to have it connected to the net right?? And by media server I'm assuming for things like movies, cds
and games?? Cool cool fam. I'm looking forward to all the cool things I could do so keep those suggestions coming.

Yeah man i put a bunch of AVI, DIVX and movie ISOs on the HDD and stream movies music youtube and the weather channel to the XBMC dash.
As you can see in the pic below you can even use the scraper to get detailed info about the movies, TV shows and music right from the net.

I'm going to add to this because I'm at the same point as you are freestyle. Wes helped me thru my softmod just over a week ago so I have been asking myself similar questions for a bit now. The only thing I can add to the above is XDSL which is basically a small Linux Operating System for the Xbox and it looks quite usefull.
It can run from a disc or harddrive google it for more info on features etc.
For me tho the killer thing with softmods is XBMC I love it so many features, file types supported and customization its hard to believe you can do it for such little $$$$.
I have some links I have built up in the past week or two. Mostly tutorials etc that might benefit the thread can I post them here Mods? Nothing dodgy just want to check as Im new _________________ Xbox vers 1.1 softmoded with splinter cell exploit.

Neato. Theres lots of cool stuff you can do.
I think I'm just gonna start small and then go from there.
I have alot of other systems modded already so I kind
of just did this out of fun and trial and error. Cool beans.
I was looking through the xbmc. It seems to have lots
of stuff. I dont quite understand what the scripts mean.
Thanks for the help guys. So much out there, you gotta
just look for it I guess. I think my next project will actually be
to install a bigger hdd for the xbox. I'm not in no hurry, but
thats next. I think I'll throw a 250-300 gb. Maybe bigger.
Who knows. Wrd up guys.

Yeah man just send me a quick pm with the links you want to use and i will look them over but i will go out on a limb and say they are probably fine.
As for freestyle's "I dont quite understand what the scripts mean." well man a script is a small APP that is used to access or use a bigger program.
As a sample the youtube script wont install all of youtube on your xbox it just allows you to access the youtube page and .FLV's, see ware i am going with this.
Most importent thing to know about the xbox mod is allways have a back up of your eeprom on your PC or a thumb drive and two dont over think it just enjoy the thing.

Thanks very much guys. For some reason I did the refresh thing on unleashx and my emulators still aint showing. They show up fine
on the xbmc though which I run from applications. I'm thinking
I could just run the xbmc from the applications section of unleashx and than run the emulators from the emulator menu once in xbmc?? Thanks a bunch for the suggestions.

Did you make sure to put the emulators in either E:\emulators, F:\emulators or G:\emulators? _________________

I believe so. I let the aid install them for me automatically,
and it showed they wre being installed to E:. My applications
show up fine, its just the emulators. They show up fine when in xbmc which is weird. I do have an older version of the unleashx dash so maybe thats a possibility?? I aint sweating it. I'll just mess around with things and see what I come up with.

If it's a really old version of unleashx the XML file doesn't have any code to look for emulators. You should update to new newest dash. _________________

How can I update to the newest dash without having my xbox ftp'ed yet?? Can I do that with auto installer?? Seems like I'd be able too. Let me know whats up.
