I recently softmodded my xbox using a friend's modded xbox, SID 5.0, and splinter cell. After much trial and error including finding, downloading, and ftping a ms dash 5960 into my backup folder thru the sid menu, I was finally able to install evox.
It simply wasn't working for me how I wanted it to (DVD wasn't playing when I told it to), so I decided to switch to unleashX since that was what my friend had. I opened up the SID menu and selected "Remove Softmod." It did that, and then automatically shut off the xbox before I could install something new. I naturally assumed that since I made a backup of the ms dash, it would revert to the ms dash upon removing the softmod. Now I get the "Your xbox requires service" error with no error code whenever I turn it on.

What error code is it giving you?
What number is showing in the top corner?

That's part of why I'm lost. There is no number in the top left corner. Just the statement that my xbox requires service in multiple languages.

Since you have no error number i don't know how to help but i did find this info "Call Customer Service Error with no number but occurs only when trying to load a game or access menu items from dashboard (never on boot up) Call 1800-4MY-Xbox, they will give you a code to enter via a controller to reset the system " but the code they give will delete your saves and only make the prob worse.
Best bet i can think of is to restore it with xboxhdm to stock and resoftmod it.

Well, I highly doubt that I'll be able to resoftmod it with xboxhdm since I can't access anything. Why would deleting my saves make everything worse?

Xboxhdm will use your PC and a Linux boot disk to re-wright the hdd so you don't need to be able to access anything from the xbox.
