i wanna shout from the roof tops that this gen of games consoles are ALL flops. i fail to see whats "new" in these consoles. i applaud nintendos attempt at going in a different direction by changing the interface, but as usual the hype was too much, once i got my hands on a wii finding one of the best games on it being wii sports, it makes u wonder if the whole point of the wii is that one game. ive always said reliability plays a huge factor in what console i support one of the reasons i never like ps2's, ive never had much luck with them. online gaming on consoles is a huge step forward, but downloadable content u have to pay for is such a rip off!!! to me the era of console gaming is over. people talk of "the one" console era when there will only be one console...errrrm hello??? its already here its called a pc! ms are such <insert choice of expletive here> !!! one of the reasons up until now ive stuck with consoles is i havent been too bothered about graphics just gameplay. now with pc upgrades becoming so cheap (and recently playing a lot of pc games) it seems so much more of a better investment to upgrade my pc to gaming spec and move over. which is my current plan. im out people. as long as i can play some fps online on a pc that will keep me happy, achievments? cheap gimmick to keep u coming back, argh it makes me so angry. im sure theres a lot of u out there who feel the same! seeing darths (sorry bout spelling) vids of mario 64 brought a huge grin to my face, thats what gaming is about! and dont get me started on scratchable media! i could tell u horror stories on how many times ive had to go back to a store with a scratched game to get it replaced, which then made me ask to check games for scracthes before buying them (which gets u queer looks in many shops) bring back the cartridge, ill tell me next console purchases are gonna be a dreamcast, a saturn, and im gonna complete my collection of nes snes and megadrive(genesis for u americans) games collection, im getting a psone next week for £7, upgrading my pc and that will be me! until some silly spec brain interface/matrixesque/holosuite/actual reality machine comes out my pc is where my moneys going, yeah boI!
i mean, if i can connect a wii controller to a pc and play halflife2/portal/fear which u cant do on a wii why do i need the console? im getting a wiimote and a 360 pad and a ps3 pad (well not a ps3 pad) and using them for pc games! OMFG!!!! best idea ever! command and conquer 3 with a wii mote! thats awesome!

While i totally agree with you that the wii was all about wii sports (and games of that sort), i feel the xbox 360 is truly better than a computer. I love RTS's and MMORPGS on the computer but the computer does not cut it for shooting games.
As much as i love the old games, i still play the new games just as much. The achievments aren't really a gimmick, there a special little treat while you play the game. As for downloadable content costing money, well it has to cost money or they couldn't make the content. The downloadable content is like a expansion pack for a computer game (which you have to pay for).
I say you get your ps1, and your SNES and everything else you want, but try the new gaming consoles. While i admit the wii is stupid, and the ps3 is a blu-ray player, the xbox 360 is truly a great system (RROD aside).

ive always prefered my xbox for shooters, ive played 360 to death, its probably the one console id want to get (especially for gears of war!!), but im waiting for it to be cheap a$$ i got my first xbox for about £60 i wanna a cheap 360, but id forgotten how much i loved fps with a mouse, its completey different! but anygame u can get for 360 u can get for pc these days, and i wanna play the extra content of gow on pc!

wow! thats deep! lol my college had a "computer club" every tuesday all we did was play counterstrike on lan, that was the best thing about college, counterstrike tuesday, got all my keyboard mouse training there, its the way forward!

I just gotta say this darth that the above post is one of the best post I have seen out of you in awhile. It sure is nice when someone posts a informative non-negative non-gears of war fanboy post that actually contributes to the betterment of HQ.
