I've been using Microsoft controllers. I've tried a Controller S and the old Duke...same results.

Yes sir.
I even considered trying the pal game save, but I was worried something bad might happen. I just downloaded SID 5.01 off of rapidshare and disabled my antivirus to make sure that wasn't corrupting it somehow...it still freezes.

It freezes up the same exact way using the Pal or NTSC game save. I'm out of ideas and have given up. I think the only solution is using a mod chip.

Try mechassult or agent under fire. This exact thing happened on one of my friends xbox. I was over at his house and forgot to bring my mechassult disk, so we had to use his old splinter cell disk for softmodding. Tried it out and the exact same thing happened. When i did it with mechassult it worked fine. It wont hurt to try it anyways, mechassult is a fun game, and its only $3 used, so its not going to hurt your pocket if you pick it up to test. _________________

Thanks for the help to both of you.
Well, I finally figured out the cause for all of this hassle. I was running the game at 480p. I unchecked 480p and 1080i in the dashboard, started the game up, and everything worked as it was supposed to. So many times I questioned whether or not that could possibly affect it and never tried it. Man I'm dumb. I've never read anything about it in any of the tutorials.
I'll ftp the Xbox tomorrow and see if I can figure that part out without too much hassle.

Is the step in chapter 11 of the guide necessary? The Virtual Eeprom Patching... I'm in the C:\ drive looking for the SID5 folder to do this step, and it's not there.
