I am in a delima on deciding what to do...
I have a choice to either have a XB V1.0a board or having a XB V 1.6....
Which one should I have? Which one is the better? What are the Pros and cons... From all aspects Hardware and Software....
Program compatibility, Display chip compatibility(i.e. XDSL) _________________

I dont know if i count as an expert but here is my take on it.
The 1.6 is newer and needs more soldering to be done then older ver., but its newer so it just might last longer.
If it was my call i wold go with the 1.0 since it needs less soldering to be chipped.
The 1.0 comes with the cpu fan that adds that nice air flow to it and it can be TSOPed with 2 drops of solder and that is just as good as an X-2 chip.
So here is the pros and cons in a list.
xbox 1.6 pros
might last longer then an older xbox
xbox 1.6 cons
Needs more work to chip it
no cpu fan
xbox 1.0 pros
less work to chip
cpu fan
can be TSOPed
xbox 1.0 cons
its older and may not last as long
Let me know what you end up with man.

1.0 are pretty good. Wes is pretty much right about pro's and con's. I have had my 1.0 seens they pretty much came out I have never had any trouble other than I had to do repairing to my power supply. (witch is what got me into the modding life)
1.6 pros
last longer
1.6 cons
no tsop
no cpu fan
hard to chip
cant add ram
1.0 pros
can add ram
can tsop
cpu fan
easy to chip
1.0 cons
Its older no guarantee it will last long _________________
If i had a choice it would be for the v1.0 mobo, Flashing the TSOP would be the reason for that choice ..... The v1.0 & 1.1 have a 1024kb TSOP (1.2 - 1.5 have 256kb ) this will allow you to boot 2 different Bios versions, or put the x2 5035 bios on it _________________

Id get the 1.0 myself, just because chips are easier to put on, and because it has the ram spots (the big thing for me). Only problem, the early xboxes had a lot of problems if i remember corretly, so it may break down the road. _________________

The ram upgrade is worthless unless you love to recode everything.

I personally don't have them in mine, too hard to solder those little things for me. My friend bought an xbox off ebay though that had them in it when he bought it. I have to say it makes emulators and linux run much faster. _________________

Alright Awesome, great replies...
I like what i'm hearing....
See what i'm having problems with in my delime is that the V1.6 probably will last longer,
Also i'm not into modchips and I have no clue what the heck you all are talking about when you say TSOP and all that chip talk...Although it sounds interesting. I don't know anything about writing progs or such stuff but am very interested in learning.I would love to be microsoft free one day and run a linux only home.
What I like about the v1.0 that you guys have mentioned is.
1.)Upgrade Ramm in order to run linux, win98,and emus are better.
2.)GPU has fan
3.)Easier to mod because of less restrictions on the mobo and bios.
Now, as far as the v1.6 vs v1.0....
Running XDSL or any linux.xbe Ive tried xdsl on my v1.6 and simply cannot get a better visual quality than 640x480 the other settings wont load. Will the V1.0 do better? (I'm using the S-video cable)
Running N64 or earlier I can run SM64 just fine but some others dont run well.
Running win98 I don't dare do because I know I would have to have the V1.0 w/ Ram upgrade. _________________

A TSOP is a way to turn the xbox tsop chip in to a modchip (poor mans mod chip ) by flashing a modchip bios on the tsop that holds the MS bios like this: http://www.xbox-linux.org/wiki/TSOP_flashing_HOWTO if you want to do this thare is an ez way with the aid disc.
I dont think the 1.6 or 1.0 run the n64 emu any better then the other unless you use the ram upgrade and reprogram the roms and emus to use the new ram.

Ok so you've all cinvinced me...
I'm going with the V1.0a
Now, lets get down to business....
Where do I get the ramm chips?
Whats the difference on TSOP and SOFTmod
Softmod you can muck by delete the dash files or many other thing, if you do a tsop right you can pop in a new hdd and set it up without xboxhdm or chimp just use the aid disc.
