having recently upgraded my ide from stock to a better one i have had a (slight) improvement in performance. Ive been testing a few of the games on my hard drive and have noted faster load times, quicker off to dashbboard start up time. Some games i have seen noticebable divffererence, for example in gta: vice city its very noticeable running sl;ightly faster then it did previously, when driving fast with cops behind it can make it harder to play, on burnout 3: takedown the speed seems slightlky faster, need for speed is again ever so slightly different. im really sur[rised such a minor upgrade could make a noticealbe difference. The speed from xbmc splash screen to skin is very fast.

Ya those extra wires really help out a lot. I have one on my 1.0 xbox. _________________

The main thing that got me with this upgrade was when lodeing games, i no longer see the spinning loading screen anymore.
Not the best upgrade ever but well worth the 3 bucks i paid for the IDE.

Too bad the cable is two feet long. I can't seem to make mine fit in mine. I was thinking of just leaving the top off and putting the hard drive on a shelf!!! _________________

Yeah man you can get it from a pc store and most pcs use them stock.
A broken ide can slow your FTP way down, so if you know it is or was broke en i wold replace it right away and you should see a big diff in the speed right away.

everyone has done studies, and the cable really doesn't help on the xbox. This is because of the way it is designed, im not sure of all the technical nam,es and such, but someone does and im sure could explain it better than myself.
But the 133 cable is def not going to do anything for your xbox, thats all there is to it...you may think your seeing faster load times, but i guarantee your not. _________________ Hotswap Tutorial|FTP Tutorial|HyperX Flashing Tutorial

Got to say man OG xbox cable= lode screen in xbmc, new 133 cable no load screen in xbmc.
Why wold the load screen show up with the stock cable but not with the 133?
llamma.com tests:
*All recorded times rounded to the nearest 1/2 sec.
So the ATA100 Mod improves load times ~20-30% - Quite a reasonable improvement for such an inexpensive part. Worthwhile for any Xbox user to do.
Thanks!

ATA/100 Hard drive/ DVD cable upgrade Source: Icrontic.com Posted: 12/06/01
This is a cool hack that was that was done by the folks over at Icrontic.com that involves simply replacing the ATA/33 IDE cable in your Xbox with an uncut ATA/100 cable. An uncut cable is a cable without one of wires cut. I am looking for a source now and I will post it here when I find one. If you find a source for an uncut ATA/100 cable, please let us know and we will give you credit..
Speed Increase? YES!
Icrontic.com - To test the new cable we ripped a Pennywise CD to the HDD and monitored the times with a stopwatch:
18 min 53 sec
16 min 35 min
desiboy - "there is an improvement... if you have DOA3.. when you get to the character select screen.. it takes a couple seconds for the characters to load... with the ATA100 cable.. the characters load in about half a second to a second.. its faster.. and its noticeable.. same goes with levels in halo.. do load a few seconds faster"
Web nine test:
I have seen tests done to determine a speed increase in loading times. For my test I chose Project Gotham Racing. I choose Quick Race, Hard, New York, then the TVR Tuscan and clocked the loading time. After 10 trials with the factory installed cable I was producing loading times of aproximatly 18.0 seconds (to the nearest 1/2 second) with the miniumu and maximum times beign within 1/2 second of that. In the 10 trials after installing the new cable I was producing loading times of approximatly 13.5 seconds (to the nearest 1/2 second). The min and max times for this set of trials was also within 1/2 second of the average. These results confirm an aproximate 25% speed increase as stated in tests done by others.
Thats just the few i found with out looking to hard.
