i have two stock v1.1 xbox's, one works perfectly fine, but the other one i lost the hdd and don't have a copy of the eeprom, so it's dead for now, i got the mechassualt disc and going to put linux on the working one, could i think a reg. hdd and somehow format so i could use the dead xbox and how linux running on it without the eeprom

With the xbox that works you can tsop it and use any hdd in it or softmod it.

The xbox with a bad hdd you wold need a modchip or an eeprom reader to get that one going again.
