A few more details would help us, to help you better.
What are the IP's of Xbox and PC?
Are you going direct or via router?
Can you ping the IP of the Xbox?
Are you using correct username / pass?
Do you have firewalls in place?
The more info you can provide, the easier it will be for us to identify and resolve your problem.

you have to tell us those things or we really cant help you, you have to understand that if you are using a router your ip in hidden to begin with. we also have to know if you have to forward ports or just open the simple port 21.

in order to connect your xbox using a router, all you need to do is set your ip type as dhcp and plug your xbox into your router with an ethernet cable. Your xbox will assign itself an ip depending on what slot its plugged into. _________________

Then you either have a problem with the cable, or security / firewall settings preventing the communication.
Direct connection is the easiest there is, one cable, plug in both ends, bang, done. Both PC and Xbox must be in the same IP range (for example: 192.168.1.xx). The connection should establish the moment the cable is plugged in.
As a test, ping the Xbox first to check data flow.
Fire up a command prompt and type: pin 192.168.1.xx (or whatever your Xbox IP is).
And don't be so prudish about giving your IP address of PC and box, we can't help you if we don't know the details. My Xbox IP is 192.168.0.100 and PC 192.168.0.10, kept nice and simple.
We'll do what we can, but you have to meet us half way.
Here are all the details i can think of my xbox ip address is 192.168.0.100
my computers ip adress is 69.149.37.245 i put the network settings on static and i connected them then pulled up flash i did quick connect and it was conneceted for about a minute then poof it says the connection is lost

Right, for a start, your IP's are nowhere near in the same range and they are never going to see each other.
Both PC and Xbox must start with the same range (e.g. 192.168.0.xx). If they don't you are never going to get the two talking via crossover.
