Try buring the .ISO to disk and using DVD2Xbox to copy it to the HD. DVD2Xbox will automatically change long filenames..
If you are trying to FTP and getting an error, then just change the filename.... I couldn't tell what you were doing from your post. There are two types of filename issues. One, when you FTP if a file has too many characters, it won't FTP. You just simply change the name of the file.
Two, PxHDD loader and other backup to xbox HD applications cannot copy games that have files within them that have more than so many characters. I ran into one of those, Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban, but DVD2Xbox took care of it nicely.
