Hey everyone. Has anyone installed the X2.6 yet? Just curious to know a little about the chip. Now that I have Xenium Ice chips pretty much licked, I want to start expanding into a different make. It's a bit cheaper than the Xenium Ice, but curious to know a few things... Unfortunately, I haven't gotten much info from resellers! I'll do some digging, but wanted some personal opinions if possible.
Are these chips flashed through a programmer? Or, can you flash via DVD Rom drive?
Do they have their own OS? If so, does the OS have FTP, HD Swap, and Eeprom backup features?
Do you still have to install an external switch for xbox live playing?? If so, that stinks...HA
Thanks...later all

Hi,
I've installed a X2.6 on my 1.4 crystal box using the solderless Xapter without any probs.
I've read an awfull lot of posts about people having probs with this chip but its usually a install prob rather than the chip itself.
If you follow the guides on the Team Xecuter webby to the letter you shouldn't have any probs.
Soldering using either the pin header or wire install is preferable but i suppose its all down to whether your confident with a soldering iron....hence the xapter.
The chip comes pre installed with the cromwell 2.6 bios which will allow you to either flash with your chosen bios via disk, ftp and there's a couple of other options but i can't remember
As for the programmer it works a treat...i've had to use one on my chip because i tried to re flash with a bios that wasn't compatible (un be known to me that is) and it was a 1 mb bios which flashed both banks and left the box fraging.
Anyway reflashed using the programmer with the X2 4983.06 bois and everything works a treat.
I'd stick with the more recent bios's and you shouldn't have any probs.
BTW...it wasn't the chip that was at fault it was my own stupidity.....if its not broke ...don't try and fix it
If you've got an older programmer (the one with the battery slot) it will work with the X2.6's but you've got to have the switchbank connected...if not the blue led's won't light up and XBM 2.2 won't detect it.
OS....not sure what you mean....if you mean Evox/Avalaunch then yes the work with this chip and all the goodies/features that come with it/them.
As for the swichbank.......yes the do but i don't really have a prob with this as i quiet like the extra lights on the front of your box
The swiches are....chip on/off,flash protect/unprotected and banks 1 & 2.
You also get HD & LAN activity led's if you do a wire/pinheader install.
Hope this helps

Yeah, that gives me an idea of some of the features of the chip.
What I mean by OS is Operating System.
The Xenium's, SmartXX's, and X3's have their own operating system that makes the chip more robust pre and post flash.
You'd have to experience it to appreciate it. People say they pay more money for the Xeniums because of all the support, but that's not the case. You pay the money for the robust features. For instance, in the Xenium OS I can set my chip up with FTP prefs. I can format a HD, Lock a HD, and use the Swap HD to copy a complete HD or certain partition right over to the new HD. I am sure certain chips have HD Swap features, but there are many tools available on the three top end more expensive chips.
I am just trying to find cheaper chips that still have some decent attributes but aren't install nightmares like I have been reading about some other cheapmods. If I can pass the savings onto my customers, then that just helps everyone all the way around.
I'll have to solder one of them into a spare machine that I have and see what they are like.

I was going to use the xapter solderless adapter, but I tightened it down a little too good :/ and stripped it, so I reverted to soldering it in, which I was a bit aprehensive since I havent soldered in about 4 years!.
The install went smooth.. just the pin header, I didnt find the d0 too troublesome, although I soldered it to the wrong point at first (DOH!) I undid it and corrected the problem, I also soldered in the two extra points so I have little lights on the front for my HD and Network activity along with a very nice switch panel.
Its my first and only mod I have ever done (250GB is in the mail, I cant wiat). I am a network admin and I have my A+, N+, Security +, CCNA and MCSE so on a scale of 1 to 10 on how computer savy I am, I would say 8 or 9.
And on a scale of 1 to 10 on difficulty of install I would rate it about a 6. If it was my second time around, Id probably say a 4.
After install mine booted to 'flash bios 2.6.something'
it gave me a couple options:
flash from DVD
flash from HD (C:\Bios)
Lock HD
Unlock HD
I flashed it from my DVD tray (samsung DVD). I dont know if you can ftp in from the getgo *shrugs*
and then intalled Evox using the xbox-hq autoinstaller.
start to finish total time, about 3 hours-ish. but I am still a n00b-a-wan (aka. padawan) learner in the xbox force. _________________ XBOX v1.3

Hey, RM! Any idea what the X3 OS can do? Can it format an HDD? I'd love to play around with my friend's and learn more about it, but, as we've discussed, its hard to do without controller ports! I was hoping I'd get it all put together this weekend and explore it, but he's chomping at the bit to get his Xbox back... I suspect he'll taker her home as soon as the daughterboard arrives.
I may yank my solderless X2.3blite+ and I'm debating between XI & X3. I know you're high on XI (maybe other things too! ), so I'm trying to figure out what important features one has that the other doesn't. I've read a little about the XI OS2 and it sounds great.
The big advantage of the X3 so far is, unfortunately, familiarity. I couldn't get hold of installation instructions for it prior to purchasing. I paid extra for the pinheader/D0 install for that mobo I got from xboxrepairguide.com, then found out TeamXecuter changed the pinheader! I spent the better part of Friday evening desoldering that pinheader. Ouch! I managed to get the old pinheader out and the newer, longer one in. I then found out that the little wire harness was designed to be soldered to alternate D0, along with connections for HDD activity and LAN activity.
I was hoping I would just need to pop the X3 on the pre-installed pinheader, hook up the D0, and attach the switch.... I got the BONUS PLAN!

Just too many bugs with the X3 for my personal liking.
I hear ya! I haven't even flashed the BIOS and I'm worried! I believe TeamXecuter will get it all ironed out, but it IS a little worrisome! _________________ The World's Most Awesome Xbox 360 Room

The chip installs easily, but the bios it comes with doesn't work at all, and good luck finding any clear instructions on how to make a bios boot cd. I downloaded the Cromwell Bios from the site, and have no clue how to extract it correctly and which files I need from the extraction. This chip should come with a cd, and the bios should work out of the box, but alas it doesn't. so buy the more expensive chips, and stay away from xecuter and their poor tech support.

Making boot cd's aren't all that bad, but I will attest that Xecuter support isn't the same as what I have found for Ozodus products...the Xenium mostly.
I have seen some of the most awesome Xenium manuals come straight from teh company. I have done a few SmartXX installs now, but 99.9 percent of my installs are and always will be Xenium modchips.
What's cool now is, the new chips that just got delivered to me have the updated OS in them. So now I don't have to worry about updating, not that the 2.0 OS every gave me any issues. I think mroe people had problems updating the Xenium OS than they actually had with the OS that they were replacing.
Xecuter I think really screwed up with their X3 release. I think they have been coming out with a new bios ever day! I am wondering how solid the 1957 bios has been running for it. One of these days though, it should be a great chip to use...they just need to work the kinks out. I was only curious about the 2.6 because I still get people who think because they read a post about the Xecuter it has to be the chip to go with! It only saves them about 13.00 versus the Xenium Ice...
later man

Larry,
Can you get ANYTHING to happen with either memory bank one or two? You shoud haved Cromwell installed on one them. If you can't, are you sure you have the chip installed correctly? Is this a soldered or solderless install?
If you're not getting Cromwell to boot on either bank, I'm guessing the chip isn't installed properly. Once you get Cromwell to boot up, then I can talk you through making the BIOS disc.
Let me know what's going on! _________________ The World's Most Awesome Xbox 360 Room
