Hi Folks, completely new to the scene.
Bought my first xbox. Now I would like to be able to install games to my hard drive so I don't need the disc. I do not want to "chip" my machine.
Is this possible?
I would also like to be able to play video files on my computer. Is this possible?
Any help would be great!

ok.. Just to clarify.. If you DONT put a modchip in your machine and want to run divx, mp3, xvid videos and games off the XBOX HDD you will have to do whats called a 'SOFTMOD'.. (its all software you load)..
Unfortunately we only have a handful of members who have ever done a softmod.. I havent even done one myself..
Personally I would suggest buying a modchip as it will work much better then softmodding.. Ive heard alot of nightmare stories on forums about softmodding so i stay away from it..
I would like to do it oneday but just dont get the time anyway.

a chip is basically a storage davice for hacked bioses ,
some have extra features added to them , like changing video modes , ftp , dvd regions etc..
there is one place on the xbox motherboard that holds the oryginal bios ,
its a little chip known as TSOP ,
if you dont want to buy a chip ,you have to erase the oryginal bios from the chip on the motherboard and program new hacked bios into that chip ,
there are other ways of modding the xbox , with software hacks only ,those are called softmods , i wouldnt recommand any softmods to anyone , especially to niewbies ,
go to xbox-scene.com and look for TSOP Flashind tutorials , they have many , and read ,read read , and reread as many as you can untill you understand exactly what you need to do ,
the easiest way to flash TSOP is to use game exploits , look for tutorials on 007 , mechasslt ,and splinter cell tsop flashing
this will not work on xbox version 1.6 and you will not be able to use xbox live if you do this
