My original Xbox hard drive is dead, it won’t spin up. Am I going to be able to setup, flash, use (play games) X-Chip on my xbox without having original hard drive?

I'm not familar with X-Chip, but with a functioning modchip, you should be able to install a new HDD, format it and install EvoX with an auto-installer, and you'd be good-to-go. If you plan on using Xbox Live, you'll need to get a lockable HDD. You can lock it with the auto-installer. _________________ The World's Most Awesome Xbox 360 Room

Yes, as long as you dont try installing a retail HD. If you install a unlocked larger HD 40MB or higher so to speak, you will be fine.
If I am not mistaken, do you not flash the X Chip prior to installing it?
What you want to do is flash your chip first, install it, then boot up your xbox with a autoinstaller in the DVD rom drive and the chip enabled. The hacked bios will load up the AI and then you can install the MS Dash, EvoX Dash, and all of your applications. Then you can run the xbox how ever you want, chip on or off with no issues....
Just make sure to lock the HD if you want to game on XBL.
