Hey all,
It's good to be back on HQ as I finally got a country ADSL service.
The new site was a huge headache on dialup.
I have a problem that I'd appreciate some help with. Sharing My Movie folder so I can stream movies to XBMC.
I’m trying to stream movies from PC to XBMC (AID2.0 relaese)
I have a wireless card in my PC with the following TCP/IP settings.
IP address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
No Gateway
I have a Belkin wireless router set as an AP and connected to the xbox via ethernet.
IP address 192.168.0.254
Subnet 255.255.255.0
The evox dash on the xbox.
IP address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet 255.255.255.0
All file transferring with an ftp client is no problem.
I have an account setup on my PC as xbox with a password as xbox. I have enabled file sharing and added xbox to the security tab as read only. The folder "My Movies" is on another HDD named G: but I have tried it in C: I have made the following changes to the <My Video Shares> of the xml file without any luck, for this purpose lets say the PC is called Fred12 and the network is called House.
<!-- My Videos shares !-->
<path>smb://House;xbox:xbox@Fred12/My Movies/</path>
</bookmark>
I’m trying to setup the share from xmbc - My Videos – SMB Network Share – Enter user name for smb://House;xbox:xbox@Fred12/My Movies – enter password.
The only thing I do here is enter the password xbox when prompted as the share name already appears, and I end up with a blank screen with no shared folder.
Could someone be of assistance as I've lost the plot. _________________ xbox v1.2

This maybe the problem, so I'll try tonight.
I thought it may have been a gateway issue but maybe not.
Does the guest account need to be enabled on the PC and do I require the Everyone account on the security tab?
DJB mentions having the right IP in XBMC so do I require any other ip entries other than the correct IP setting in the MY Video Share? _________________ xbox v1.2

I personally have done away with windows networking because of just such troubles as this. If you want to get away for it, I recommend using a PC app called ccXgui. It runs on your PC and acts as a server. You can add the folders you wish to share, and it requires no configuration by xbmc as xbmc can auto-discover it _________________

Mine was pretty easy to set up, I just used AID 3.1 (1 click softmod) and then set the xbox to DHCP rather than static as I have a router/ modem and then just shared the files I wanted from my PC without permision to modifiy and then just browsed to the folder. I already had a network set up in the house so that the kids could have internet in their rooms and share the external HDD on My PC.
I'll just be glad when I learn enough about the config files to set it up to default to a certain network location rather than a local Xbox folder for videos. _________________

Thank all,
After several changes to the xml file I decided to go with Greven's advice.
ccXgui turned it into a simple task. AID 3.1 sounds pretty easy 2, just might have to get it some time.
Doing some homework now on how to configure the Belkin AP with my DLink DSL-604T as they just can't seem to talk to one another. The only way I access the xbox is with a seperate wireless card in the PC and use an ip range of 192.168.0.xx rather than the DLinks 10.1.1.XX range.
Thanks again _________________ xbox v1.2
