Hi all! I'm a complete xbox newbie, but done a good number of pc desktops.

my problem is 'dirty disc' error on m$ dash, and nodisc on EvoX +3935 dash.
I've had some time with moddingbandit on this and he says I need to reflash my chip which I have no idea how to do (and he neither thats why I'm posting for hepl please).
any special tools I need? ehternet cable? pc software?

help VERY greatly appreciated! My housemate is on my back coz the xbox has been down for over a month..

cheers!

it sounds like the drive is dirty or the laser voltage is down some, try cleaning the drive first, if that dont work you can try the voltage trick or i can get you a dvd drive for 30 bucks

Use a Q-tip, clean the mirror and the lens with a high quality lens cleaner. I like to use anti static lens cleaner, I have even heard of plain alcohol being used. The goal is to leave a streak free finish and use one end of the wetted q-tip to clean an the other to dry. BE CAREFUL NOT TO SCRATCH THE MIRROR

Re-assembly is the reverse of assembly, start with the top and then attach the bottom. If you do not have a handy screw grabber or magnetized screw driver, have fun getting the top two back in place. You will probably need to pinch the top and bottom together and shift them back and fourth to get the screw holes to line up perfectly. Finish off with the rear screws, re-assemble the Xbox and hope you made things better rather than worse.

Note this was from a tutorial in the tut section of xbox hq

went ot the hobby shop but no antistatic/rubbing alcohol.. and very very reluctant to spill my smirnoff onto the lens (not that there should be soo much of it there in the first place :p)

also, I just obatined the xbox repair guide apparently by moddingbandit it covers cleaning and laser voltage yay! SmileSmileSmile

so, before I manage to get the cleaning tools, any finer tips to add? also, you think it can be solved by cleaning/voltage adjustment rather than reflashing (which I still haven't manage to find out what it is/means..)

cheers!
