I have run into a problem, I used softmod installer deluxe to softmod the box using SC NTSC exploit. after I installed the softmod and evo-x (i am assuming this is a bios and not a dashboard) i rebooted the box and......shit........it boots up but after the flubber thing it looks like the original microsoft dash is trying to come up on the screen and then error 21. Ok my question is......I made an MS backup and I have also managed to get that backup file intact using forensic software FIRE (thank you linux) now my hard drive is locked so after i post this I will hotswap the drive and use liveinfo to try and get the password to the hd and then try to unlock it. If this doesnt work is there some way that I can use the hotswap trick to unlock then mount the hard drive in linux then use xboxhdm to rebuild the harddrive back to retail state and then also lock the hard drive after rebuilding by shutting down would this work??? Basicly I need to get my hard drive back to retail state and try the softmod again is my ms backup file enough to do this??

Success!!!!! this is for all who get in trouble and cannot access your hard drive.
1. MAKE sure that you have a backup of your C:/ MS folder.
Get XBOXHDM create the ISO with your MS folder read the docs
(dont worry about the eeprom.bin)
2. after you have created the boot disk, disconnect your PC's hard drive and have the cable close enough to the xbox in order to hot swap.
3.Boot the ISO, but before linux recognizes your system mainly any hard drives (if you see hda hdc any of that reboot) hit the pause/break key to pause the boot process.
4. Go over to your xbox turn it on while the cover is off. Just before the flubber thing ends and the ms logo pops up disconnect the ide cable from the back of the xbox hard drive.
5. Connect your PC's IDE cable to the xbox hard drive while the xbox is still on. Then hit the space bar on the PC and continue booting.
This method will allow XBOXHDM access to the locked hard drive without having to go through all that eeprom.bin and hd password shit.
6. AS of now you should only have your xbox hard drive the only hard drive connected to your PC. type xboxhd at the prompt and then READ choose option 2 to rebuild C: partition.
7. After all is well disconnect the PC's IDE cable from the hard drive before you turn the PC off. Likewise with the xbox make sure that you reconnect the IDE cable inside the xbox back to the xbox drive before you shut it down.
This method can get u back to a state were you can start all over again with the softmod. SWEET

Yeah I know but from what I could gather in my research all the individuals that attempted to fix there hd didnt because they did not have their eeprom.bin file backup and the hd password. I just figured I would list it because it is the answer I was google-ing for. But not bad for someone who has just started hacking the box 2 days ago.....

very nice blackware1337, very impressive indeed. Thanks for following up your own post lol. I'm glad someone finally posted a complete, easy, and short thread for people wanting to do a hotswap. 1 Question, do you think you could chang your topic to have something about a hotswap in it. That way if someone searches the forums for hotswap it will come up easier? Just trying to help the next you that needs to know how to do this. _________________ Blue Chaos

you only need backup from c and E and use xboxhdm to fix it with hotswap
you don't need eeprom because the hd is still locked with good key
i use hotswap when people format there retail disk by mistake
