Yeah you need a converter and you can just hook the converter up to your car battery and then plug in your xbox. My friend has done this with a ps2 so.

Do you think a person from the U.S would be able to play with you Australians. Because on certain games the server restricts us from playing with japan and so on. But I'm not sure about every game.
