Today I'll be reviewing Armed&Dangerous for the Xbox console. I'll skip the data section right away and tell you one thing:This, my friends, is a TRUE GAMING GEM. When you try this one out for the first time (without having looked at the packaging/the manual lol) you will notice right away that this game is HILARIOUS:The first cutscenes will give you quiet a few laughs, the whole game will do so.The characters have a very own personality and it is just so funny to see when it comes to dialogues/to interactions between 'em or the outside world; take a look at this:You are Roman (not an actual roman, it's just your chars name), a very tough mercenary-type-guy, accomplished by your best friends: Q, a nice robot with a fetish for Tea, Rexus, a small, blind being that is very clumsy and Jonesy, a mole that loooooooves explosions.Together they form the Lion Hearts, what is some sort of outlaw/rebel organisation fighting the corrupt system, saving the world and of course looking for profit.
It would last too long to tell about the actual story, I just want to underline one thing:The developers put incredibly much love in the creation of a DEEP universe.The graphics, for being released in 2003, are incredibly nice either, same is the soundtrack that fits the weird setting perfectly.The atmosphere in general with said fantastic sense of humour is amazing.Wow you say, that sounds cool (because it DOES), but here is the biggest (and for me only) problem:The Gameplay.
The Gameplay doesn't invent anything new: You are shooting bad guys, saving people, blowing up stuff or defending towns from a siege with a canon.Over and over. And that's basically it. It gets really repetetive after time and (I try to not judge so hard) if it was any other game that doesn't deliver literally so much fun, you would really call it 08/15.And that's why you have to love it: IT IS NOT NORMAL.
The sense of humour and the deepness are the elements that let me call Armed&Dangerous a true gaming gem., that should be picked up by anybody who is into xbox collecting.I wouldn't say it is the new everybody missed it-get it right now MUST HAVE title, but it shouldn't miss in any serious Microsoft Xbox collection.Pick it up, play it, and I promise you that you won't be disappointed.8/10 for A&D, cheers people, feel free to contact me for further questions. :)
