No CD-R as far as my own tests went. That coincides with most other disc media compatibility charts I've seen.

I tested both Philips and Verbatim CD-R (Ritek and MBI manufacturers respectively) and, like the Samsung 605F too, neither worked.

I used up to five separately burned discs made by two different Samsung PC DVD-RW drives. Tried multiple times to get each Xbox to boot them - 100% incompatibility with the Thomson and Samsung 605F drives.

However when I tested Verbatim CD-RW discs (MCC manufacturer) I was surprised when the Thomson booted them consistently. Even one of the two Samsung 605F I was testing booted them too.

So that itself might also suggest the age or condition of the Xbox disc drive affects the compatibility as well.
