I thought about getting it how ever I wouldn't really have any use to convert to 1080p on the xbox I all ready have so many other hd streaming devices. What do you guys think? See any difference in gameplay or not?

Well that isn't an HDMI cable, that's just the HD cables for the original Xbox. Also, I think the highest you can get out of the original Xbox is 720p I believe. Most games don't support that high either, so I'd say on average you might get 480p. _________________

Its more than worth it, the XBOX natively supports 720 and 1080. Be sure to redo your softmod with the HD version (Pimped V2 forward were HD). The difference is quite noticeable. Looks way better running HD on my LCD TV than regular. MS even marketed 2 different HD hookups for the XBOX, 1 like in the pic you linked to and another that looked like an RF splitter. Madcatz also made one (I have it) and it works quite nice. Once you have the HD cables you can go into your dash and enable 720 or 1080 in the settings.

Nope no format, just DL SID5 Pimped V2 or newer, boot your XBOX and run XBMC, FTP in and delete the contents of C drive and replace it with the contents of the Pimped C folder, also go into E delete items.xml, config.xml and evoxdash.xbe and replace em with the files of the same name from the Pimped E folder. Dont even touch the TDATA or UDATA folders (where the gamesaves are) so no worries on losing anything. Once youre done replacing the files just reboot your XBOX and you'll have the HD version installed.

It would be the difference between seeing a far away car in a racing game and seeing a little white blob. It would really help if you have a messive screen. On small screens, you don't really notice.
Little question: would it slow intense gameplay? If my FPS was 20 and then I turned HD on, would that go down? Would it put more stress on the GPU?

The original xbox unmodded outputs 1080i max using HD component cables by MS or at least that is what my big screen 1080p TV tells me and even 480p scaled up to 1080i looks better than being displayed as 480p on this TV I have. Just some observations
The modded one here is the same on the games as above.
I always play in the highest resolution I can, frame rates don't matter much if the xbox is upscaling from 480p to 1080i
With that said, it is correct that the majority of games are in 480p, some are in 720p. I can only think of 2 offhand without looking anything up that are 1080i native: Enter the Matrix and MX Unleashed are 1080i games. _________________ 10% VIP Discount (Coupon Code: HQ-VIP-001 ) - Signup for web hosting at www.TweakedHosting.com/clients/aff.php?aff=004 and earn the HQ network of sites recurring income!

Hi guys! Back after a long absence and the purchase of a 55" LED Television! I'm running a hard modded Xbox 1 with the latest update of XBMC. But I'm having trouble running the box in hi-def. It seems like the only mode that really looks right is 480p and I'd really like to upgrade to 1080i. Based on this thread, it sounds as if I may have to HD soft mod my hard mod, is that right?

You need to make sure you have the component cable. Also, make sure you are in NTSC mode because PAL doesn't like it, however I find that PAL mode gives me a few more pixels than NTSC on my XBOX.

I have the official Microsoft Advanced A/V Pack running Component Cables and have tried setting the various options to 720p, 1080i, 1080p and everything looks kind of fuzzy/out of focus 480p however looks fantastic. The box was hardmodded years ago but I've ftp'd in newer versions of XBMC. I'm wondering if I'm not getting good display because it wasn't modded with HD originally. (I'm sorry I'm not sure of any of the terminology here!) I guess I'm wondering if (even though there's a mod chip in this sucker) I need to soft mod it with the HD version in order to get my display working correctly?

Chances are you dont have the HD patch Rory, Im not sure whats included in various chip BIOS but one thing I am sure of as long as that chip is on you cant softmod it and install the patch. There may be a way to add a patch to the BIOS to allow it, maybe Wes, RealHypnotix, User1 or Darth might know since their the chippers/TSOP. As for output, games not in 720 etc, the main benefit from doing the HD upgrade is that just like an upconverting DVD all 480 games will be displayed in 720 by default or 1080 (requires setting change), also you can now watch H.264 MKV and other hi-def video formats in hi-def on XBMC. Many of the newer emulators have also been designed to output in 720 or 1080. Quite simply put hooked up to an HD TV without the patch looks like shit, and as I said is most certainly worth it, thats why its included by default in all my packages.

What is the HD patch? If it is something to do with the BIOS, I don't think I need it because I have the latest Xecuter one.

Nothing to do with BIOS itself (but may be included with as an extra) since its in softmod packages and softmods dont touch BIOS (since PBL) and just patch the kernel to a temp online Live update (M$ thought was secure but is far from it) allowing you to run unsigned code of which the HD patch is part of. Thats not to say you cant get the files and copy them to the proper folder on your C drive but thats just theory since I dont chip and have never tested.
Really its just a patch for the unsigned code that goes on your XBOX to allow it to support HD otherwise you are stuck with 480 even with the HD kit and XBOX native HD support. You can thank M$ for that kinda like the bunk scaler chip they put in the 1.6 to keep people from being able to run a full Linux distro like Xebian or Xbuntu.
BIOS-retail (oversimplified)
At boot checks DVD for valid signed .XBE or Movie DVD, then unlocks HDD and runs DVD media, if no media checks HDD for valid signed M$ dash .XBE and runs it
BIOS-hacked
Exact same as M$ BIOS but signature requirement removed and in 99% of cases HDD lock removed
Kernel Patching (oversimplified)
When M$ realized D4920 was severly comprimised they released a series of updates the last of which was D5960. When you were updated to 5960 a temp dash (which was 100% open- very stupid on M$ part) was loaded. This dash is whats loaded when you softmod allowing full access without actualy touching the BIOS. M$ security at its best

Hey guys, well I made the donation and jumped to VIP. I figure this site has been so very helpful in all of my modding endeavours it was more than worth it to give something back. And to have access to VIP downloads, etc. So in regards to the HD problem: that all makes sense but BIOs flashing seems a little out of my league. Would love some help, tips, etc. on that one from the people more experienced with mod chipping.
Meanwhile, sppv, you may recall me asking you a billion questions on a second box of mine. I wanted to add a HDD but it was softmodded with MechAssault and I didn't have a copy of that game at the time and was unable to remove the soft mod to upgrade my HDD....
So I was hoping to nuke that softmodded box, reinstall the soft mod (with HD support for my new television) AND upgrade the HDD. Which of your auto-installer packs would be the ideal candidate for me??
Thanks again to everyone on this site -- it's the best resource I've found for Original Xbox modding.
