I've posted for this subject in the Newbies section, and while I had consistent help, I found no answer to my problem, so I figured I may as well bump it up to the next notch, the special section for the actual modification. Figured maybe if I post a second deal, I'll get a wider range of people whom may have encountered the same problem. When I boot my Xbox after softmodding it, it comes from the C:/Sid/Rescue/ folder, as opposed to any other place where you would expect it to boot from. I'm kind of confused as to why it would do this, but here are the steps I took in chronological order.

First, I downloaded Sid 3.1 using Splinter Cell Platinum edition which booted up fine, located the softmod installer, tried it, never got it to work very well,
and at that point I decided to try and download AID 4.01, which naturally had SID 5.01 included. When I gave that a shot, everything turned out quite nicely till the end, where I booted up the dash. When I did so, I realized that the dash had not included the applications option, nor the dvd, emulator, and settings options. At that point I tried multiple dashboards and so forth with AID, though never trying anything different with SID. I used the basic installer, nothing fancy such as Virtual C, and everything is backed up. The two outstanding oddities I encountered where that when I went to the backup EEPROM section by pressing X in the Unleash X esque dashboard, I found that I could in fact boot back to the main menu, and instead of seeing the unleash x screen, be greeted by the SID 5.01 screen. From there, being as nothing was already loaded, I found I could load all XBE applications, including the FTP program. I did try to use the FTP, but it was just a tad two buggy for my tastes, didn't feel like troubleshooting any further, so I just reverted back to backup on my E drive. Now I'm searching around for an answer as to why my XBOX would do this.

Ok uninstall that softmod and put this one on from this link:http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/postt21288.html. I have softmodded many xboxes with it and it works fine. I have never used the one from AID. So try this one and see if it does everything normal.

Heh, maybe I should have mentioned that I actually downloaded 5.01 before AID 4.01. Thanks though! Also, if you want to read the original post in the Newbies section, the link is http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/postt21552.html!

Maybe you should try using a different version of SID.

The only other one I could really try would be SID v4, but maybe I'll have better luck with it. First I think I may want to try the Virtual C + EEPROM installation... if only I knew why one might want to use it...

After carefully studying the tutorial, I have located a short sentence that explaines the rescue dashboard. Unfortunately I have not found anything more indepth about that particular function. If anybody has any information about this function, please explain how it works and how I might fix it.

That's exactly the same thing that i'm getting when i softmodded my xbox yesterday. I have also a unleash x without a menu, i can ftp to it, that's not a problem.
Mine is also loading the dash from that 'rescue' directory. Didn't find any answer to the problem.

If you can ftp to it, maybe try donloaded the latest version of unleashx from xbins and ftping it to your xbox. It sounds like a problem with the installation.
