I just got an xbox finally for christmas and I was wondering if there was any way that I could update it from v1.0 to 1.6 or if that is something that has to do with different hardware being used in the constole. (Is the different versions of xbox firmare or is there a physical hardware difference) Any help would be appreciated. thank you...

Yes, there are physical hardware differences between version (eg. power suply, video encoder etc.)
However, you can update your dashboard to the lastest version, as well as the kernel/bios(i think).
You can update your dash by running a reasonably new xbox live enabled game(eg. Burnout 3), which will update automatically, or AID v2.11 Disc, but this would require a mod of some sort. _________________

All Xbox Live enabled games I know of have a dashupdate.xbe in their root directory. That would update your MSFT dash if you were connected to the internet and selected Xbox Live in the game. If you just got it for Christmas (Forza pack) then it is most likely a v1.6 or v1.6b Xbox. I just bought another Xbox (Forza pack) I'm going to mod with a Xenium s.p.i.c.e. After I get the chip (It's out of stock everywhere) and open my Xbox I'll bet it's a v1.6 or v1.6b. yes you can update you dash...just make sure the xbox has access to the internet and and once you click on xbox live, it will download the new M$ dash... _________________ Xbox v1.6b

Thank you for all your help I think that I am going to buy a mod chip for it have any segestions? Preferably one that is solderless free ( I can solder, and damn good at it, I just don't like doing it ) .
