this is going to be hard then it is uhmm. ok basicly hot means when its running swap means swap the xbox hd to connecting it to the pc . that way it can get unlocked ...
so that means NO you cannot take out the xbox hd and put it on the pc anytime ... it has to be done within a few secs ( 8-10 secs)
re read the tut until you understand fully what you have to do _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

Here's an easy way to do a hotswap, and you really don't need your TV:
Prepare your XBHDM disc the way the other tut says. Then, shutdown your computer and disconnect your Harddrives (they don't need to be removed, just the cables (power and IDE).
Next, plug in your xbox relatively close to the computer and leave the AV pack plugged into the back (it doesn't need to be plugged into a TV just hanging off the back of the xbox).
Now disconnect the DVD drive in the xbox (POWER and IDE). And leave the Harddrive fully plugged in for now. So the only thing disconnected on your xbox is the DVD drive.
Now, power on the xbox. Wait until the LED around the eject button starts flashing red. Your Hard drive is now unlocked. (If you're curious, your xbox just gave you an Error 11, which means it can't find the DVD drive). Now, ONLY UNPLUG THE IDE CABLE FROM THE HARDDRIVE. Boot up your computer with the XBHDM disc in your DVD/CD drive. While your computer is doing it's RAM check and Processor check (before the first beep) hit the "Pause/Break button" on your keyboard.
Now, take your PRIMARY IDE plug from your computer and plug it into the Harddrive in the xbox. DO NOT REMOVE THE XBOX'S HDD POWER CABLE!
Now, while both systems are running, press the space bar on your keyboard and let the system boot (if you haven't set your CD/DVD-Rom drive as primary boot, you might want to do so before hitting space). Then, follow the program instructions in the other tutorial.
Hopefully that was a bit clearer for ya, if not, I'll try and be more specific on anything you have questions about.
EDIT: when you're switching the XBox HDD to the PC don't worry about taking too long. The xbox is errored out, but the Hard drive will stay unlocked as long as the power to the system is on. So the 8-12 second rule really doesn't apply. Just still try and do it rather swiftly. _________________ "That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger."

Because the xbox first boots and unlocks the HDD, then checks for the DVD drive... it doesn't find it. Then, the xbox errors out and stays there without moving forward or locking the hard drive back up _________________ "That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger."
