I have a router connected to my cable modem. Then, I just use CAT5 line going to the xbox, and another going to my PC.
Now, to connect to another xbox you can purchase an accessory to do the job. Some actually more than two xbox's to be connected together. A system link cable (same as crossover) will do you fine. It will allow you to use multi player games that support system link to play a game in full screen, which is way better than a split screen.
We also have a tutorial here that tells you how to transfer files from one xbox to another in the event that interests you. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

my system link cable is a rj45, and i do use it for smashing my friends on halo. but is a cross over the same as a rj45, or is it different? I totally understand how to network my xbox with my pc, but the cable is the question. _________________ SmartXXv2/4983.06 bios

I believe rj45 is a type of cross over cable, different sizes and what not, just like cat 5 and cat 6. _________________ XBOX v1.0:

From what I gather the difference between a crossover cat 5 rj45 (rj stands for registered jack) and straight through cables, also cat 5 rj45 is the ends.
When connecting to a hub/router you can use the straight through standard cat 5 rj45 line due to the hub/router lining up wires/connection to the computer.
But, when you don't have the luxury of a router doing that lining up for you, a crossover cable is needed so the ends line up properly.
Here is a site on how to make yoru own crossover cable.
I hope that helps. To be honest, I'd just buy an accessory to do the job..HA. I bought something that cost me less than ten bucks, M$ official system link cable, which is just a crossover cable, is 19.99. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter
