Hi!
I'm having trouble installing EvoX dashboard on my modded Xbox. The previous hard drive stopped working, and I had no backup. Lesson learned..
The hexen dvds doesn't boot up right. It says Linux under the xbox-logo, but nothing happens after that. Slayers 2.7 boots up fine, and I've tried to format and install the new hard drive I've put in (an old Seagate 40GB IDE drive) but it gives me error 13 witch I understand signals no dash found?
When booted into slayers I can connect to my Xbox through FTP. I'm not allowed to copy or change the files, but I can see the content of the folders. Default.xbe is placed i D: and C: is empty. Is this why I'm having problems booting up?
Slayers tells me that the bios installed are EvoX M8 v16 00 and that all my drives have 0 GB free space. The chip installed is Aladdin.
What is the best way to fix this? I'm very confused.

He's being helped on another forum too.
Its chipped (Aladdin BIOS Evox M8 v16). Not being a BIOS expert I can't say if that might or might not be the cause of the problem. It seems unlikely but Xbox BIOS choice is a dark art so I'll leave that up to those here who know more.
The only other explanation that makes any sense to me is that there is a disc drive or disc problem. If the DVD-R media was burned OK then any of the discs should have cold booted and taken him through the formatting and dash install process. Slayers boots but it apparently can't install anything and HeXEn and AID won't boot at all.
The fact that nothing is shown, via an FTP connection, on C:\ and he's not "allowed" to FTP anything might even indicate a HDD problem. It is an old 40GB one and presumably IDE so it can not be a problem with a SATA adapter/80wire IDE cable. That might have explained the inability to FTP.
So there could actually be two problems involved not just one because even if the HDD was crocked the Slayers, HeXEn and AID discs tried should still be cold booting.
I'll be interested to read if anyone here can come up with an a better explanation and, of course, a solution.

Yeah, I don't understand why Slayers would boot but not AID and Hexen. It was burned on a mac witch usually burns ISOs without problems but I can try burning it with a friends computer and with different DVDs.
The hard drive works. It's spinning up immediately when the Xbox is turned on and I can hear it load. I'm talking with a person who sells a used IDE hard drive, but maybe the best thing would be to buy a new one and a adapter and a new IDE cable.. The FTP showed that the hard drive is partitioned right but it's possible there is another problem with it.
I also tried flashing the BIOS with Slayer, and the version it now tells me is installed are M8 v16 07.

HeXen's menu will not appear for about a minute after you boot it. The Eject ring should change to RED and the screen will be blank until it does.If you see Linux under the big-X logo after the flubber animation, it is loading. Wait for it at least 2 minutes to see if the menu appears.
So you installed a new HDD? Have you formatted and added files to it for the Xbox?
How is your console modded? It must be hardmodded, if it boots Slayer's with an unprepared hard drive. Which modchip and BIOS?

Hi! The eject ring turnes red and it says linus under the X, but doesn't get any further than that. I find it so strange that Slayers can boot, but not Hexen. Have tried to burn it on different DVDs, and with different versions of Hexen with no luck.
I've installed a new hard drive yes, an old Seagate 40GB IDE drive with the jumper set to master. Slayers has formatted it trough the auto install and copied the files, but that won't boot. There is an Aladdin chip installed with the M8 v16 07 BIOS. I've flashed it with Slayers several times, with the option to boot from C:, F: and G: but that doesn't make a difference ether.
Any suggestions on what to try next?
EDIT: Slayers takes a long time to boot, and I've let my Xbox try to load Hexen and Auto Installer Deluxe for over an hour without it helping.

What does it do? Get stuck at the big-X logo? No replacement dashboard runs.

Do you mean M8 v16 06 BIOS (F only)?
The latest EvolutionX BIOS is M8plus - since you mention v16, do you have a v1.6 Xbox? I'd use the F and G BIOS even if you allocate all the remaining space above the stock 8GBs to F only on this drive.

Something's definitely wrong with the DVD drive if it can't load faster than that. The laser lens may need to be cleaned.

I dont use Hexen but this is common with AID. Even on a perfectly good XBOX it can time out while loading. There is far to much data that requires caching at boot up.
Your best options are
1) Put in Slayers then FTP in and replace the dash files that way
2)Download UnleashX, open it on a PC and create a C folder, put the stock MS dash and UnleashX xbe in the C folder. Now use CXBOX tools to turn that UnleashX folder into an XISO, burn to dvd and boot it. If its a brand new HDD it should auto copy the contents of C to your HDD. If not use the filemanager to manually copy the contents of C
