Hello, I'm new to this forum but not that new to modded xbox's. I have a modded xbox before years ago but the hard drive stoped working and by the time i bought a new machine, i didn't use it cause of school. But anyway i have a new machine that i am trying to convert to a Media center that can still play xbox games. I know that xbox live doesn't work which is fine with me. But I've run into some trouble.
First of all i have three hard drives i can use for the machine although i'm not sure that two of them will work with the machine. The First which i would like to use is a Western digital 160GB IDE hard drive i bought three years ago and still works like new. The second is a Seagate 40GB Dell OEM Hard drive that came with a computer Years ago, this drive i'm not sure will work because its always given me problems in most computers other then dell and one HP. The Third is the stock Western Digital Hard drive, not sure how big it is.
The Dilema...
First off my main problem other then not knowing if the hard drives will work is that because this system has never been opened or modded i cant just swap hard drives and perform the install. What i want to do instead of Buying a Mod chip since i have no EXP. in that department it do a software mod. But i can't find: any of the known games to work with it in my area and don't want to buy online due to not knowing if its the right disc since there are diffrent versions of the game. the other is i don't have a USB card reader or a USB flash drive. so the only alternative that i think will work is the Slayers Evox or the AID installer. I have downloaded both and burned both to a TDK DVD-R 16x 4GB disc. I will be getting some CD-R or CDRW's soon. But when i do what the instructions say and burn the disc i get an error from the xbox saying that the disc isn't readable. I only get that message when i have the OEM Hard drive in for the XBOX. But when i have the other two HDD's i get the red ring of death and error code 16! The DVD drive is a Philips Drive.
Thanks in advanced to anyone willing to help and i am sorry for the length of this, wanted to give as many Details as possible.

Hey man,
Welcome to the site.
First of all, let me see if I can help you. Downloading the AID disc, then sticking it into an unmodded Xbox will not work. AID and Slayers are used AFTER the initial softmod to install applications.
You will need a copy of Splinter Cell, 007: Agent Under Fire or Mechwarrior if you want to begin with the softmod. Only using one of these three games, along with the SID (Softmod Installer Deluxe) software can you begin the modding process, without the use of a chip. You will also need the SID software and chosen game exploit on a memory card, so that you can copy them to the hard drive.
I think first of all though, you need to get yourself one of those 3 games, then we can take it from there.
Thanks for the response, But i have been looking for those games but there are none in my area. But Game stop has it online. but then i figured that it was possible the game wasn't the right one, meaning by the version capable of doing it.
So the Hard drives may be fine and so may be the discs i've burnt?
Any Ideas where to get those games semi-cheap?

Both should work fine, just hope they don't try to slip you a platinum hits ver, they tend to do that since its the same except for when modding is the point.
@ FC: All is good on my side the pond bro and work and finding time to head to the shooting range aside i just need to find more time to get back on the news so i can pull some more wight around here.lol

If you build the usb drive i would use xplorer 360 and not the action replay app.

thanks for all the help everyone. I'm not sure if i should do this because i don't want to lose my xbox. i do have a memory card but its said that when flashing the bios it may destroy the machine. The machine i had it on previously quit working 3 months later. If i had another machine i would do it... But i still play games on this and so do other people in the household

Im sure you will be fine when you flash BIOS, most softmod installers will do that automatically for you and usually that will never fail. Unless you dont follow each step, but even if you didnt, there is most likely a way to recover your Xbox. Just no matter what happens. Dont shut off your Xbox if it does crash. haha. Just come to the forums and we will help you out. Good luck if you decide to give it a shot, and there should be alot of tutorials somewhere in the Tutorial section, and like the others said. Try the AID (Auto Installer Deluxe) tool to help mod your Xbox.
