Hey man, welcome to the site.
You can indeed use a standard ethernet crossover cable to connect your pc to your Xbox. You wouldn't use the MS system link app though. I assume your Xbox is already modded? Doesn't matter whether its a chip or softmod.
The best way to connect is to use a program on your pc called FlashFXP or SmartFTP. These programs are FTP programs, allowing you to connect to the Xbox and transfer files across. This is especially useful for installing things like emu's.
Simply install your chosen program, type in the IP of the Xbox, and off you go.
Best bet is to get one of the programs first then hit us back if you need further help at that point, then we can be a bit more specific for you.
Hey thanks man! but now when i have th box and the pc linked i go to start FTP on the Boxes Dash and Start FTp in the Smart FTP client and it says that it cannot resolve host name and other weird junk... its odd ant ideas?

You don't need to start any FTP application on the Xbox mate, only on the PC. Set the IP of the box to static (something like 192.168.0.100), make sure your PC is in the same range (something like 192.168.0.10) and start SmartFTP again. Type in the IP of the Xbox to connect to and it should be fine.
well i would absolutely love to try it right now but my dad has stolenz my televisonz from teh Newbie Hackzorz!!! lol so ill have to test this later _________________

Will it boot original Xbox games? If it does, you could restart the softmod from scratch, using the game save exploits. If not, do you have a backup of your box, including the eeprom? That way you could use XboxHDM to rebuild your HDD.
OK i have my Box back Modded with SID 5.0 with UnleashX Dash and I try to FTP to my box and it says that connect failed because host failed to respond in time
Connect Failed >:[
So any help would again be appreciated _________________

Can you ping the IP of the box? It may well be that the IP is different than the one you think it is.
Also, are you using a direct connection via crossover cable?
