1. Can you play a "backed up" game on a xbox with out soft mod or does it have to be softmodded?
2. Can you play a real xbox game with xbox live if the xbox is softmodded? or will it ban you even if u r using the real game?

I like that second question I just thought of that too, but supposively if your HHD is non-retail, then nope not anymore.
I do not personnaly know about your first question, but i do have a soft mod myself, but not yet have tried to got XB live, rather Xb Connect is free! The only problem i have found with XBC when playing halo 1 is there seems to be a bit of cheating, like shooting a plasma gun at point blank and guy not goin down , and he fires one shot at me and im done. but good luck if you wanna soft mod. _________________ SmartXXv2/4983.06 bios

Softmodding requires files that shouldn't be on the hard drive to be on both the c and e drives, I don't know that anyone has made sure that M$ is scanning hard drive files, but I would guess they could and probably would. So I'm not even going to try and go on xbox live until I uninstall my softmod, using the ltools package, it is a piece of cake to install and uninstall the softmod, so this isn't a big issue. However with older ways to softmod you would have to use a game save to gain access to a dashboard with ftp access, then you have to remove all the files manually and replace anything you changed earlier. However with a tsop flash, I don't know of an easy way to remove. I would guess you could follow a similar method and load the retail bios back in.
So to answer your question, it may be possible to play on XBL but I would think it's not, and everywhere I have read, says to not play with any type of mod.
As far as playing backed up games, it depends on how the exploit that causes the softmod to work is activated. If it is the font exploit like used in ltools, it is loaded as soon as you turn on the xbox. So yes you can play backup games, if you have to go into a game and load a game save each time, then I don't think you can play backed up games, A TSOP flash will enable you to play backups also though, So it really depends on what exact way you choose to softmod your xbox. _________________

Well i already soft modded my buddies' xbox since he doesnt plan on playin live.. so i hoped by doing that i would use his xbox to copy the game to my comp and burn them so i can play the burned copies i just made a burn with NBA Live 2005 and it didnt work on mine but i didnt get a change to try it on his to even make sure i burned it right. I tried using nero and made the iso file with the xbox support built into nero. and i also tried with extract-xiso. But like i said i still have to try the backups on his xbox. If i were to get a mod chip i could still play xbox live if i turn the chip off correct?? with no problems or getting banned or anything like that?

The answer used to be yes, but it's kind of a grey(gray if you prefer) area now, nobody knows exactly why they are banning a lot of people, most people think it is because they have been on xbox live with a different hard drive before, or maybe they had a different hard drive than stock, nobody really knows, you have to be careful about where you put files on the hard drive, becuase by signing up for xbl you give them permission to search your drive, and if they find any files such as "evoxdash.xbe" they may ban you for that.
If you use your stock drive, and only run games off backups, then play retail games for xbox live, you should be alright. But it's getting more difficult to tell why they are banning. _________________
