Hey all, I have done several 1.6's already but this one has me a little perplexed. As you all know the 1.6 doesn't technically have a D0..it has a LFRAME hole. The upper one is located under the cyclops chip under the "U" of UC71. I can't get this friggin wire to go down in and I see nothing to even solder it against.
This is just strange! Now, the LFRAME hole on the underside of the mobo seems fine. Even though I can't get the wire down inside it I have plenty of metal to solder against and at least make contact.
Has anyone used the underside LFRAME hole on a 1.6??
I want to gather some info before I solder this puppy and have to end up tearing it down again. What bothers me is I have to run it past some other wires that had to be soldered in the rebuilding of the LPC. I don't know if they will end up crossing in the long run and create issues for the user down the road.
All input is definitely welcome..
thanks all!

hey mate,
Sorry i cant help ya there.. I only am just about to do my first v1.6 myself.. Im going to be installing a Aladding Live and flash it using the USB Cable..
I have got to learn a bit more about other chips like you have been doing..
anyway, im sure you will get it.. I thought you had to soldier to the underside of the board with 1.6's but dont quote me on that.

Yes, on the underside you have to rebuild the LPC with five wires. All five wires must not cross and they have to be as short as possible. I have done 1.6's and this is tedious, but not difficult. I cannot see where my frag is coming from. The only difference between this mod and the others is where I connected to the LFRAME hole.
The top side LFRAME holes were too small and I couldn't get wire in them. The bottom LFRAME I actually did get the wire into. Now, I only used 30AWG wire and soldered it on top of the Xenium Ice after I ran it up through one of the unused LPC holes.
This is just screwy.
I'm sure I'll figur it out, just trying to work on a time schedule...have two more machines to chip tomorrow and don't want to spend half a day troubleshooting one machine...
Any info would be greatly appreciated! _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

FRAG GONE..FRAG GONE..whew..
Okay, here are some tips for 1.6'ers!!
First, there is NO D0 hole. There are LFRAME holes. Two on the top, and one on the bottom. MS started using this lacquer on top of the mobo and it totally covers the holes so you can't solder to it, nor get the wire down in.
You can use a fiberglass pen or a hard pencil eraser to try to get the lacquer off, or you can use the underside LFRAME point. It is totally exposed and awesome to use!
After you rebuild the LPC area with the five extra wires and have your pin header soldered to the LPC you will want to check for continuity between the bottom point where you soldered the pin in the LPC hole to the top pin of the pin header. You will certainly have continuity as this is the easy part.
But, you will also want to check for continuity between the pinheader and wire that you soldered to rebuild the LPC. There will be five checks in all.
Another good hint is to solder the wire to the mobo first, then route it as short as possible to pin to be soldered. This just makes for an easier install.
My problem was sooooo simple. Even though all looked great, I didn't have continuity between two pins and their points where the wire was soldered to mobo. When I pushed the wires aside they turned out to be not even connected to the pin!
Even though under a magnifying glass they looked fine!! All I ended up doing was touching my iron to the tip of the wire and letting it for a better joint with the pin.
Hence, no frag.
Anyway, just my 2 and a half cents!!
later all

What I can't get over is how each time I open a machine something different comes up..HA.
With yours we discovered that MS changed the dash for 1.4 versions and higher, for tweaked I discovered that the M8 Bios that was flying around had no Large HD support, and then now I just modded my second 1.6 of the day (not for a member here) and all went smoothly accept now I am dead in the hole..no power!!
I just finished last nights 1.6 from hell for one of our members in New Jersey and was FTP'ing roms over when I finisehd the second 1.6. I turned it on, flashed it, ran the AI..everything was hunky dory!
I shut it down so I could connect to PC to FTP roms into it when the other 1.6 is done, but now it won't power up!!
Sometimes I wonder why I got into this anyway...
Well, back to the troubleshooting express!
later man!

How did your 1.6 go??
I did two more since then...tonight I did midtown's...went flawless. Was the best time I had on a 1.6 yet! I changed the way I rebuild the LPC and it went much much smoother. Basically, what I was doing before was soldering the wire to the pinheader point and then to the mobo. I would do one wire at a time and complete each wire rebuild before I moved onto the next.
What I did this time was solder all five wires to the mobo points first. Then I took one at a time and soldered to the pinheader point. For some reason that went much better. Also, it helped that all the mobo points except for one didn't have all that lacquer shit on them and I was able to insert the 30AWG wire right in them!
Also, the LFRAME hole on the top of the mobo was good too! Didn't have to use the underside one and string the wire though an open LPC hole to the DO point of the chip.
The other 1.6 I did last night was a bitch man! The 2T resistor that controls standby blew on me! I had to replace it. I used a 2A resistor as I heard they are more tolerant. I have a feeling we will get a post or two real soon with ppl having their 1.6's not firing up at all after modding!
later bud, catch up with you real soon.
