Good luck!
I just did my first softmod this weekend (ended up softmodding two boxes) and it's not that hard to do. Just be patient and make sure you're sure of the steps before you perform them.

You'll need action replay software and if that still doesn't help (and it should) you could try the trick here:
http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/posts8732-highlight.html
Granted it's for a usb card, but it worked for me

ERROR 13.......... I guess I miss understood the directions, I did softmod with Splinter (selected install soft mod). Then put in the AID dvd that I made and formated all the drives, the directions say it may take two trys to to do this so you should reboot and format drives again......... well when I turned off xbox it will not boot to dash error 13. When I put Slinter original game in it is playable, when I put AID dvd that I made I get error 13, when I reboot with no disk I get error 13.......... AM I SCREWED?

Well since you can boot the original game still no your not screwed and really you can always recover with pirrups hotswap tutorial which is in our softmods section of the HQ Tutorials.. Smile

So, boot the original game and reinstall the softmod.. Follow the exact steps of one of our tutorials. There are now a few different softmod installers from our site available.

DJB's SID3 (softmod installer deluxe 3)
and more recently a combination of NKNAVE and DJB for SID4.
They are totally seperate systems.

Hope that helps get you back on the right track

I wish I could do that, Splinter doesnt have that option..... man I got the directions for pirrups hot swap and I downloaded xboxhdmv1.9. Pirrups directions dont go with the files that are in the download. here is what I mean. Step 3 says put ms dash in C folder into xboxhdmlinux..... I dont see any files named ms dash or xboxhdmlinux. Oh damb. I should not have formatted the xbox dives but thats what it said do. I did back my xbox up and put the backup on one of the partitioned drives on the xbox , but that has to be gone also since I formatted it.........$#%^&*!!
What to do????????? Sad

was reading this tutorial: http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-171.html

and I was wodering about this part:

XBOX DVD-ROM TRAY OPEN ON BOOT:
- If you select this option when you boot your xbox with the dvdrom drive open the SID3 menu will automatically popup. This is a great option so you can rollback to your previous config and normal retail m$ Dashboard..

now I was wondering, if i select that option, if the tray is closed, does that mean it will boot to normal dash?

ya see, I am a daily halo 2 xbox live player, and I want to soft mod, but I still want to play halo 2 with my live friends without getting banned, and I was wondering if this si the option that will help me do that, if it is not, then what is?

Lame question,,,,,, I have done all that was needed in making the cd for hot swap, it says to use cd-rw to burn the Linux.iso onto, ,,, can I use a CD-R instead? Or will it not work with this image file? Since The computer will be reading the file on the cd-r and writing to the xbox HD I would think it would be ok unless the CD_R doesnt work with this ISO.

If you select the option DVDROM TRAY OPEN ON BOOT it will auto load the SID3 menu.. When you boot with your dvdrom closed it will boot directly to whatever dashboard you want to install.. Its very simple..

Basically SID3 tray open feature is so you can gain access to the softmod main menu without having to insert the ORIGINAL GAME again.

If you select the TRAY OPEN option and then before you get onto xbox live you do a ROLLBACK using the SID3 main menu..

If you want to use XBOX LIVE and a softmod i believe SID4 (nknaces and DJB's) is better to use.. It hides everything from xbox live so you cant get banned and also so you cant delete critical files.

hope that helps.

Ask for more help on softmods in our SOFTMODS FORUMS.

CD-R will only normally work if you have a SAMSUNG XBOX DVDROM DRIVE.. The samsung can read just about any media when others like the PHILLIPS, THOMSON XBOX DVDROM's have trouble..

Its best to burn to CDRW unless you know for sure you have a SAMSUNG.
Otherwise DVD-R too.

Maybe this could help you..

The HQ CD/DVD Compatibility Database:
http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/modules.php?Xbox_Compatibility

ADD THE MEDIA WHICH WORKS FOR YOUR XBOX DRIVE.
You can also identify your xbox dvdrom from the links on the bottom of this page.

UMM dude they made sid4 for a reason... u need sid4 dual boot=retail

so what it is ?: its like this u power on ur xbox and it loads the dashboard ie ux evox etc.. BUT u ejet tray open then it patches everyin back to NORMAL RETAIL XBOX which means its good for xbox live.. i hope this answers ur question.. ( i have a 200gb maxtor hd and im been on live more then half a yr and no ban..

yea Fh told u bout it but i'd figure to explain it as well..
