By mistake I changed the name of the xbox dash and I don't have the key to unlock the hard drive. I've read the tutorial, tried to hotswap the hard disk with xbhdm cd inside the pc, and when the menu from the xbhdm appears I press option 1 and the computer reebots without giving me another option and stays in a loop. I don't know if the hotswaping goes right because the computer does detect the xbox hard drive but the xbhdm cd doesn't do anything. Please help me in any way you can.
Thank you very much.

PD: My Pc specs are Hp Pavilion 6640c with an AMD K6 500 Mghz, with 256 RAM just in case my pc is too old to use with xbhdm.

But anyway thank you

I am at a complete loss as to how to overcome this error. I haveused the make-iso-win.bat with xboxhdm 1.9 to create the ISO. I have included the MS DASH from the link supplied in this tutorial. I have set bios to boot from CDROM. I have even tried with HDD detection enabled and disabled. The only two things that may be causing it would be that I have only used a CD-R to burn the iso to (although I only thought you needed to use CD-RW when actually using the drive of the xbox) and also I have included the SID 4.5 Loader and save game under UDATA in the E dir. However I can not understand how that would cause a CD that UltraISO and ISOBuster have both declared to be bootable to not boot. Would it work better if I put the files from ISOLINUX into root? Or is this just something that at this time is unexplainable. I have read that people suggested using another computer however this option is unfortunately not readily available to me. Does anybody have a suggestion of what I should try next?

Ok, to those who don't know what pirrup means, I'm going to break this down real simple like. Now in this example, everything is downloaded to the desktop. And my user name on my computer is Angelos, so my desktop path is:

C:\Documents and Settings\Angelos\Desktop

Ok?

Now, download Pirrup's ms-c-hosted-by-pirrup.rar file and set it to the side for a second. Download XBHDM and extract that to your desktop, just right click the .rar file and say "Extract here". You should now have a folder on your desktop called "xbhdm" open that up and look inside. Marvel at all the files... but don't worry about any of them.

For now, double-click on the "linux" folder. You should see this file listing:

[C]
[E]
[eeprom]
[F]
[isolinux]
[xbox]
ABOUT_THIS_CD.txt
check
readme.txt

To make this real easy, open up the [C] directory. Now remember that file I told you to set to the side? Find it, and double click on it. winRAR should open up and you should see a folder [ms-c]. Double click it and you should see this listing:

[Audio]
[Fonts]
[xboxdashdata.185ead00]
[xodash]
XBox Book.xtf
Xbox.xtf
xboxdash.xbe

Highlight all those files (click on the first one, hold down shift and press "end" on your keyboard) and then drag them all into the [C] dir I told you to leave open. Wait for the files to finish extracting, then go ahead and close the [C] folder.

Now, we're going to run the .bat file through a command window because it leaves it open just in case something goes wrong and you want to see what.

So, open up your run window (hold down the winkey and press R) and type in CMD or Command if CMD doesn't work. Once that opens you should be greeted by a command prompt that says:

C:\Documents and Settings\Angelos>

Now type in "cd desktop\xbhdm" and press enter, then type in "make-iso-win.bat" press enter and wait for the ISO to compile.

This should only take about 5 minutes. Once it's done, burn to a CD-R with Nero or DVDDecrypter (i like Decrypter because it's dynamic on the burn speed and adjusts as needed). This CD WILL BE BOOTABLE when done. Now shut off your computer (just leave the CD in the drive, no harm there) plug in your xbox HD (unplug your PC's Hard drives to keep them safe) and follow the XBHDM program part of Pirrup's tut.

I know this was a bit long, people. But it's for people who aren't really computer savvy. That's a step by step guide to the hard windows part of the tutorial. I really hope that helps, because now my fingers hurt.

Yeah whenever I unplug the power and IDE from my DVD drive and boot up my Xbox, I get error 12 not 11. Can someone help me out on this?

Punked, leave the cord with the 4 cords (It's a molex power cable) connected to the xbox hard drive the WHOLE TIME. You ONLY unplug the xbox's IDE cable. The xbox will then constantly supply power to the HDD the entire time.

Mongoose, leave the power cable plugged into the DVD drive, that might get you the error 11. But try doing it with error 12, it still might work.

Cancel everything i said I figured it out.
I unlocked it by unhooking the power cable to the xbox dvd drive then when xbox boots up it says error 12 which means no dvd player etc but at this point on it's unlocked! woo hoo!!!

I ran the linux program and my xbdash is back and i can re-softmod it again.

Great tutorial thanks everyone!

Smile

Does this mean the HDD is unlocked even though I am getting an error 12 instead of error 11? And when should I take out the IDE from my Xbox HDD?

One more thing, I take the IDE from the PC's HDD and put it into the Xbox's HDD spot right?

After we switch the PC HDD IDE from the PC HDD to the XBOX HDD and it said Verifying DMI Pool Data then under that it says Boot from ATAPI CD-ROM: Failure... then under that it says Starting Windows 98. Below that it says Type the name of the Command Interpreter (e.g., C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND.COM). I don't know what to do once I get to this. Is everything going right? Please reply. Thanks.

EDIT: Tried different things still no go. Different boot sequences, different times of pulling the plugs, different pausing times, different cords connected. Nothing worked, just gotta chunk this one I guess Sad.
