The Xbox worked fine until a few days before posting here, I had it on for approx 1-2 hours and then the Xbox displayed an orange light, video cut out and then the Xbox turned off. I opened the Xbox and broke the sticker seals thinking dust has caused it and a clean would fix it. since you can boot to the Xbox dashboard but then comes the orange light, if you try again is orange as soon as it is turned on. could there be any other components on the board that could cause this issue?

When it comes to GPU barely warm is no worry. Now lets talk software, Hardware seems exhausted. The FACT you see orange means this XBOX has been modded. NO and I say this JIHAD, MOSES, JESUS fact stock XBOX boots orange lights. Open it up and look for a bridge connect (bottom board if its a 1.4 or 1.5) or else its a softmod. But NO MATTER WHAT I SAY WITH !,000,000,000% ceratinty you have a modded XBOX. If its not a hard mod I CAN guide you through back dooring it to gain access

Hi SPPV. the xbox has worked fine in the past i have owned for a few years. The Xbox has not been hard modded.
The xbox played games fine, some it did not like and states disc is dirty and others played fine. eventually more and more games did not work. (issue with cd drive).
The Xbox still has the original Xbox dashboard and there is no indication when turning the xbox on that a softmod is installed. if this is the wrong method, what would be the best way to check if a softmod was installed.

If its booting normal MSdash I would be inclined to believe it has either a UDE or Audio Exploit installed, which requires a key press code to boot to hack dash. If it just shuts down the only way to confirm the software is via HDM. If you have no eeprom, which Im assuming you dont since you are unaware of any mod means a hotswap. I'll tell you now hotswap is a bitch, I actually threw an HDD into a wall way back because of how annoying hotswap is.
In a nutshell unplug both cables from the DVD, get the XBOX beside a PC with IDE ports, put an XBOXHDM disc in the PC drive. Turn on the XBOX, soon as you get the E12 screen unplug the IDE from the XBOX HDD and plug it into the PC IDE and turn on the PC. Once XBOXHDM boots pick option 1 then type xbrowser at the prompt. Now browse the HDD and write down the file names and post them here. We can then confirm what mod has been installed on your XBOX and help you fix it.
By default a stock XBOX does not orange light so its definite your XBOX has been modded in some way.
