Hold on. Are you saying I need to buy specialized xbox hobbyist equipment to do the CPU upgrade? You can't just buy a regular 1.4 GHz CPU chip and solder it in where the OEM CPU was? Where did the equipment used to be available? Would this "Trusty" fellow from XS be able to tell me where to find what I need? Or does he not like telling others how to do it?
I haven't found a lot of specific results in other forums other than people saying "it's harder than RAM upgrade."

^^ oh fuckinhell!
are you kidding?!
try a degree in electronics as well as the precision of a bloody psycho-killer!
yes, you require the correct equipment such as a quality workstation for the reballing/reflows (high end equipment) not to mention the specific parts/sockets as mentioned above!
SERIOUSLY, he's NOT joking but giving fair warning!
if i was to try a RAM upgrade, i punch babies!
if i was to try a CPU upgrade, i kick pregnant women in the guts!
this is coming from somebody who knows their limitations and if SPPV chipped in with his bit AND you're still asking questions some digging may answer, i fear the worst for you!
DON'T try it, don't waste the parts or the time! keep the xbox's you have in the working state!
when you've done a RAM upgrade, you may just qualify to take a flimsy shot at this.... _________________ to all my friends... farewell and all the best to future prosperity... and remember, be excellent to each other!

Like I said before I know someone who is a skilled technician with circuits and soldering for his job and have been getting advice from him.
Sad thing is he lives too far away to work with him on a weekend.
I don't really care if I burn a few xboxs while trying to do this. They're pretty cheap nowadays.
I suppose the RAM upgrade might be all that I need to get all surreal64 roms to work properly on my softmodded xbox. Oh and getting all the PS1 roms to work with its respective emulator as well
I think the CPU upgrade is needed to play HD movies on XBMC? So maybe the RAM upgrade will be enough for the emulators to work properly.

^^ whatever?!
good luck with that!
(and they're "pretty cheap nowadays"? NICE! they're finite in numbers and no longer made!
if you have the will and can save some cash, why don't you cut the bs and buy a pre-build? i'm not entertaining any flimsies when it comes to the destruction of xbox to better one of them! sorta like the rainforest but that grows back slowly over time, xbox's DON'T! i'm not seeing this, i'm not seeing this, i'm NOT seeing this! i'm peering into the future and some xbox's are gonna DIE!) _________________ to all my friends... farewell and all the best to future prosperity... and remember, be excellent to each other!

I get where you're coming from, but if I just spend $200 for a "Trusty" console from xbox scene, then I never get to understand the fundamental electronics going on.
Honestly, I haven't gamed seriously (i.e. more than half and hour) for a long time. I decided to learn xbox modding after I discovered xkai, and I was bored of just playing my xbox disks. Getting emulators on my console was certainly a treat, but I'm not really interested in spending hours on end playing video games anymore.
I did too much gaming as a kid and I'd rather spend time getting hands-on skills such as soldering by doing these types of mods. I suppose in the meantime I could do SPPV's Xmas LED mod
Besides I don't know if I'd feel comfortable shilling out a credit card number online to non established vendor sites. Amazon I would trust, for example
Just to humor me, who or where else can one buy a RAM & CPU upgraded xbox? Know of any good, trustworthy and reliable places?
Thanks

If Trusty still does the upgrade it would be the 1Ghz upgrade. Yo could use a couple different BGA 1Ghz CPUs and direct solder them after reballing and using wires to connect up the points.
Asking for links to sites that were around/carried stuff years ago is beyond pointless lol. LegendaryFire and I were gonna offer CPU upgrades here and spent months and months searching for the BGA-PGA adapters and bupkis. Also you need a specific CPU. Its called a Tulattin Celeron Mobile1.4Ghz CPU.
Your best hope to find info and maybe a legit retailer for a CPU/RAM upgraded XBOX is Google Dreambox. Be prepared to sell a kidney to fund it. They run as high as $500
And you dont need a CPU upgrade for HD movies. I can watch 720P x264 MKV's on my XBOX no problem. Check the video cache allocated in XBMC and if you get stutter increase it a couple of MB

I'm still looking to acquire another v1.0 xbox so I can attempt an upgrade to 128MB RAM and do the 1.4GHz CPU mod (both of which are difficult).
I just ordered a 1.4GHz 128mb v1.0 board from Trusty yesterday .
He is still doing them & now offers switchable 1.4GHz / 733MHz
so it still plays xbox games without patching all the xbe's

How did you wind up getting a hold of trusty? The xbox-scene forums went the way of the dodo right? Or did you wind up finding him on a another foum?
SPPV said those processors for xboxes are hard to find or solder into the console nowadays. Is that true?

Switchable 1.4GHz / 733MHz, That's fantastic,
Does he send my same board back when he's done.
I would like to send my 1.0 board to get full Trusty mod.
