I'm a modchip person but I don't know anything about chips other than Xecuter. If you have An xecuter 3 or above chip, you can press power and eject at the same time to go to the FlashBIOS. However, if you have a earlier version, you need to get a programmer for that version and flash it that way.
To do an HDD upgrade with an Xecuter 3 BIOS is easy as pie. Before that people where wasting time burning disc after disc with various xISOs and use Evox (the one with the shabby FTP server >_>) to copy files over. However, the X3 BIOS alllows you not only to format your new HDD but then copy everything over. You hold down the white button on startup until you get to a menu and I think you can take it from there.
