Of course I'm new and I've been reading everything I need to do to sofmod my old XBOX. Can someone tell me what I need to do to download the latest AID? I clicked on the download here and clicked on the name of the file and it downloads a smile file. I must be missing something.

Final outcome: I want to use my XBOX as a media center.

Thanks

Be sure you have a torrent client, like limewire or bitcomet. I'm not sure about them all. I use bitcomet.

When you clicked to download, what did it ask you? It should have asked where to downoad the file and then it shouldn't have prompted you to choose which parts of the download you wish to download. In this case, you should do the complete download. All together, it should be over a GB of AID.

Check that you have the torrent client and that you downlaoded the entire program.

I downloaded BitComet and it's taking forever to download AID. I have a cable modem and turned off Norton and still the download is really slow. I mean really slow. There must be something I'm doing wrong.

Check your firewall and make sure the ports that are using bit torrent are open, this is possibly why you're getting slow speeds.

hi, just registered so I could say thanks for all your hard work putting AID together, it's much appreciated.

when I got my first modded xbox i had to pay someone a small fortune to get it chipped, then with my second one it was cheaper cos of the tsop mod, but now it's free thanks to you! Very Happy

i know you didn't invent softmodding (or maybe you did, I don't know) but you've certainly put it within the grasp of most semi-competent n00bs, so for that I think you.

GameStop are doing reconditioned xboxes for 20 euro now here in Ireland, and Game have them for 30, so it's an excellent bit of kit for such a small price it would be insane not to have at least one in every home.

I've just softmodded 6 in a row with the xbmc dash for friends (having previously done one or two in the past using various softmodding methods found on the net) and yours is by far the safest and easiest method I've found (not mentioning any names).

Actually while I'm here, I just wanted to mention that if I go into the eeprom backup menu in AID that switches from the blue menu to the red SID eeprom backup menu, after performing a backup when you choose the option to go "back to main menu" it hangs on "loading" and goes no further. it's the same every time on all 6 of the xboxes I've done.

It's not really a problem as power cycling the xbox with the AID disc in still gets me back to where I was with the eeprom backup intact and if I run SID from the savegame it works fine, but I was just wondering if it's something you'd want to know about.

thanks.

Are you sure that its hanging? Remember it can take around 30-40 seconds for it to boot the main menu again, this is because of the size of the config file that it needs to load in.

I didnt "invent" the softmod as such (wish I did coz it was rumoured the inventor got $1m for it) but I do agree with SID being one of the easiest softmodding tools around.

Thanks for your kind words too Smile

I download AID v4.20 and ran it on my chipped xbox. Basically I`m looking for XBMC to be installed.

From the menu screen in AID I selecetd the 1 click chiiped option which I assumed would install everything I needed. You then got the option of selecting your dashboard from which I choose XBMC.

After various files installing it said it had completed the install and I should switch off the xbox. After I switched off the xbox it booted back up as it would if you hadn`t a disk in i.e. no dashboard had loaded up I got the usual microsoft menu.

After that failed I then tried to install XBMC from the apps menu onto the C: drive of the xbox. Again when this completed I switched the xbox off and again it booted back into the microsft menu.

Any ideas what I`m doing wrong or what I should be doing ?

Welcome to the HQ man, we hope you enjoy this and all the other HQ sites we have to offer. Very Happy

what partition was your old dash in?
What bios are you using?
You should never install XBMC to the C drive since it takes up so much space and it will take up more as you add scripts and options like that.

Some back info here, it may come useful..

What I do with XBMC installs to C Drive (with AID) is put a shortcut on C drive and install XBMC to E. Dunno if that helps or not.

Thanks for the welcome Laughing I`m working away from home at the moment so i`m not sure what bios I`ve got. I haven`t actually installed any dashboard successfully yet. Any time I use AID or Slayer it always says install complete please reboot and then when I reboot the xbox it boots as though nothing has been installed on it. I`ll check the details when I get home on Thursday. Cna`t let this beat me !!! Laughing

Just a thought but should I have formatted the box before trying the install ?

I haven`t done so previously as I thought AID does all the necessary for me.
