but why do a hotswap when you dont have the eeprom to lock the drive?
You can't do that, because hotswapping was invented(or found out as some owuld say)to recopy files on a LOCKED hdd with no eeprom. Thus, you dont need to hotswap if its unlocked .

So the backup on your PC is of sid and not the xbox?
If you did not backup the eeprom you will need a chip or you need to know someone with a chiped xbox.
Or you can send it to some one with a chiped xbox and have them load the hdd to there chiped xbox and pull the eeprom file so you can use it to rebuild the xbox hdd.

hey i am new to this web site
and a few years ago my xbox stopped working it comes up with some service required thingy and i have really wanting to play it again haha. it says 05 on the left hand side of screen
what do i do?

Welcome to the XBOX-HQ, we hope you enjoy this and all the other HQ sites we have to offer.
If you dont have the xbox eeprom code for that mobo you need an eeprom reader or you need to chip it.
