(snicker) You would have a much easier go at it if you read everything first. When I modded (granted I chipped my box) I did a lot of reading before deciding what way and how I wanted to make my box better.
Again, I would recommend that you be sure you understand completely what you are doing before attempting the mod. You may have to briefly re-check the manual but otherwise you should pretty much have almost done the mod all the way through in your head first. I've seen enormous posts due to lack of studying.

Shark2th was pressured into chipping his box...he's a closet softmodder you know
sssssshhhhh....don't tell him. He might get defensive and deny it. _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS

Honestly, if you're looking for shortcuts to softmodding, I would recommend stopping the attempt now since there are serious consequences to failure when softmodding. Then it's pirrups hotswap or modchip time.
Start simply going step by step, if unsure then ask before proceeding to the next step and the soft mod experts can get you through safely but again (as I had to do once before in another thread with basically the same set of questions and answers), I would highly recommend that if you are not confident, don't start until you are or chip the box with a Xenium Ice and if you arent able to solder, buy the solderless mount.
Ya know, come to think of it, I don't know if that dude ever finished successfully softmodding his box. Never did hear what finally happened.
Do you remember that thread Dangermouse?
All Xboxes basically run at the same speed, so version 1.0 isn't all that different from 1.6 except the dvd drive and the bios used (in some cases). _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

Well I play Halo 2 and the maps and other basic things that used to run faster go kinda slow. I just recently deleted alot of stuff off my xbox so it is running faster, but Halo is still kinda freezing up on me. Any other reasons why it would take a long time for it to not be black screen??

My only concern would be the bios chosen. Do you know what version of Xbox you have? What size hard drive are you using, the stock 8 gig? It may be that there are a lot of game saves not allowing the Xbox to cache like it used to too. My first questions are assuming that the box is modded via softmod. _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

Oo and another thing do you guys think that deleting all of the old Halo 2 files that I kept on my xbox would maybe solve all my slow problems?? Would that delete the maps that I downloaded on Halo??

Bare in mind if you would that I am not the softmod expert, but I'm trying my best to give you guidance until one of the softmodders appears to help us out. Usually I would delete saves. I'm not sure if that would delete the maps or not, I'm thinking not but I won't swear to that. So the modding isn't complete and you're looking at a stock xbox currently. I still have two standing questions, one, do you know what version Xbox you have and two, do you know what bios you intend to use? _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

My serial code ends in 05 making it from China, so it is at least a 1.1 xbox.
Any good softmodders that might know my problem??

The bios wouldn't have anything to do with it. Softmodded boxes still use the retail kernal. I'm thinking along the same lines as Shark2th...make some room on your hdd by clearing the cashe and deleting some saves.
As fas as the softmod goes...study the steps, be sure of your gamesaves, and don't cut corners, or else you'll be looking at a hotswap or modchip.
We just went through that big mess that Shark2th mentioned. The kid had over 100 post and didn't learn anything....well maybe that he should have done his homework and nothing was accomplished.
How did the AR steps go? What type of memory device did you use? You may want to do that step over since you got that black screen. _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS
