This is pretty much the same thing I posted on another board recently...one with a lot of posts, reads, etc. It seemed like the smart thing to do at the time. Unfortunately, after 60+ views there was only one response pretty much suggesting that xbox newbies like myself shouldn't attempt such tricks. I suppose that may be true enough. However, it didn't help much as far as resolving the problem.

Let me try this again here if you don't mind :::::

I should make it clear that the 10 or 15 minutes I spent installing "Softmod.Installer.Deluxe.v2.0.xbox.Hq" was the longest I've ever even had an xbox contoller in my hand. This is my son's xbox. My goal was to use the soft mod in order to play backup games. I read enough in this forum and a couple of others to figure I could pull it off. Anything else is way beyond my talents.

The status of this xbox now is that it will play both original and backup games that I burned from iso's. However, somewhere along the way I fuxored the softmod so that booting the sytem with the tray open no longer takes me to the softmod menu. I can only get to the Evolution interface tray open or closed.

I followed the instructions to install the softmod using Action Replay that I purchased and the 007 Agent Under Fire game. There were no errors and softmod installed without a hitch (backup c:, choose "Evolution" dash, etc). Afterwhich I followed the same instructions to run "patch MS 5960" from the softmod menu and then "repeat steps 3 to 7". This part was a little confusing to me in that it seemed that it did no more than reinstall the softmod. I noticed no other changes but then again, what do I know? As far as I recall at this point booting the system with the drawer closed showed me the Evolution interface, drawer open the softmod menu.

Now, the next thing I did may be the source of the problem. Having this cool new Action Replay thing and staring at the 007 Agent Under Fire game sitting there it seemed like it would be interesting to use this new tool to load some "saved" game available from Action Replay. I loaded a "save" using the memory card and I suppose, in the process, blew out the original "Bond:AUF" that I had used to install the softmod. I don't know if this could be problematic but I should mention it just because I made no other changes to the system or the softmod (other than this) after the install.

I noticed the problem yesterday while attempting to use Action Replay to load another "save" from a different game. Couldn't see anywhere to go using the Evolution interface and somehow I had lost the ability to get back to the softmod menu. Again, I am pretty much clueless and choices on the Evolution dash give me no where to go and nothing to do as far as I can tell. "Microsft Dashboard" appears in the menu but it is red and I cannot choose it. Just for the heck of it I tried the entire process again from scratch but could not load the "Bond:AUF" from the Action Replay into the 007 game. It gave me a "service" message and showed the #21 in the top left corner.

I suppose I should be delighted in the fact that I accomplished what I had originally set out to do which is play backups but I am concerned. I imagine that I've managed to pretty much screw this up and do not have the knowledge to fix it. While I am very familiar with ftp I have absolutely zero experience accessing the xbox via the network adapter <--I'm assuming that's what the little plug in the back is.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks,

2kd

Actually this is a pretty easy fix, just act like this was a brand new Xbox and remod it like you did in the first place and just select "install softmod." This will allow you to get to the softmod menu when you bootup with the tray out.

You don't need to reinstall the EvoX or UnleashX dash or anything, you are good to go, just need to repatch on the softmod and you are finished.

Thanks diskord for your help but...this is a part of the orignial post:

"I tried the entire process again from scratch but could not load the "Bond:AUF" from the Action Replay into the 007 game. It gave me a "service" message and showed the #21 in the top left corner. "

As you can see, I tried to do exactly that.
Perhaps I could use one of the other games other than 007 to attempt the install from scratch?

all you need to do is place open.bin in SID folder (you can find it in safegame)
ftp it to your xbox

Or if the game save has been deleted you will get the same effect of the menu not coming up. So if it is deleted then just put it back and you don't have to do anything other then that. I remove it because I don't want my kids getting into it, and I found (as I am sure others already knew) that when I erased the game save the menu stopped coming up. And if I need it I just put it back on.

Thank you for your replies. I read a bit today and figured out how to ftp into this box.

Dir of C:

drwxr-xr-x 1 XBOX XBOX 0 May 11 11:41 ..
drwxr-xr-x 1 XBOX XBOX 0 may 04 22:12 SID
-rw-r--r-- 1 XBOX XBOX 1994752 may 04 22:12 xboxdash.xbe
drwxr-xr-x 1 XBOX XBOX 0 may 04 22:12 fonts
-rw-r--r-- 1 XBOX XBOX 12050 may 13 22:06 evox.ini
drwxr-xr-x 1 XBOX XBOX 0 may 04 22:27 Skin
drwxr-xr-x 1 XBOX XBOX 0 may 04 22:27 Trainers
-rw-r--r-- 1 XBOX XBOX 770048 may 04 22:27 evoxdash.xbe
drwxr-xr-x 1 XBOX XBOX 0 may 10 14:24 backup

Dir of C/SID

drwxr-xr-x 1 XBOX XBOX 0 May 11 11:41 ..
-rw-r--r-- 1 XBOX XBOX 262144 may 04 22:12 closed.bin
-rw-r--r-- 1 XBOX XBOX 262144 may 04 22:12 open.bin
-rw-r--r-- 1 XBOX XBOX 409 may 04 22:12 boot.cfg
-rw-r--r-- 1 XBOX XBOX 22272 may 04 22:12 bios.xbe

So...if someone could tell me exactly what to do / move / replace and where I think I can pull it off.

Thanks again,

2kd

Since it does load to the dash right? If so goto the games saves manager and make sure the game save is there.

-rw-r--r-- 1 XBOX XBOX 62 may 04 20:15 TitleMeta.xbx

Just so that I have this straight here...
I found a path on the xbox that matched the filenames in the extracted Bond.AUF zip file that came with the installer. The zip contains a folder named "000000000000" that is not present on the xbox. Just drag that folder into /E/UDATA/4541000d/ ?

Or am I making this harder than it is?

Did you look in the saved games manager? That would be the easiest first step. If it isn't there just use the method (i.e. memory card) you used to put the softmod gamesave back onto your xbox. This is the easiest way. Let us know what happens.

I was thinking maybe there is a terminology miscommunication.

Goto your dashboard.
Goto Settings
Goto Game saves manager
Find the bond save location I think 007 something (I don't know what the title for that would be. For Mechassault it is just that "mechassault")
If the game save for the softmod isn't there (for Mechassault it is called "run linux") plug in your memory card restart you xbox.
Go back into the save game manager goto the very bottom thats your memory card high light the game save and press start then copy then hard drive.
Thats it.

If it gives you a copy error then the folder that has your gamesave is there but doesn't have all the files so go in thru the file manager goto the e: drive goto Udata find the folder that holds the saves for bond. If you don't know if you open the 007 sid then open the sid zip file then open the folder inside and open the zip in that it will have a folder Udata inside it. Look in that folder it has another folder with a bunch of letters and numbers. That is the game save location for that game. Delet the one on your xbox. Then go back to the game saves manager and copy the memory card again. And it will work this time.

Good Luck let us know what happens

Thank you. Here's what I see when the xbox boots:
Evolution menu that includes:

Play games from hard drive
xbox game trainers
Launch emulators
Play game / media from dvd
Launch applications
Microsoft Dashboard <---red and cannot choose it.
Choose a different skin
System Configuration
Reboot xbox
Power off xbox

If I choose "system configuration" I see:
System settings
Lock hard disk
Unlock hard disk
Power cycle
Flash bios
Backup

If I choose "system settings" I see:
Network
Hard disk
Bios
FTP
Telnet
RD tools
Clock
Video
Misc

Unless I'm missing something "game saves" is not an available choice.

I am using UnleashX that is the difference. Ok so FTP into the udata folder then get the folder for you gamesave the one with lots of letters and numbers. Erase the one on your xbox then replace it with the original one from your pc. Hope that makes sense.

Yep...that did the trick.

Thank you eleventhtoe and others who were kind enough to help.

It is very much appreciated.
