Do the Body For Life system dude... it's great..

The hardest part is getting your six meals in everyday...that gets a little arduous. But in three months went from 180lbs to 143lbs, arms went from 14 to 16 inches, waist went from 32 jeans to 29 jeans. Took an extra month to get a six pack, and believe me I didn't work abs all that hard.

Basically, the idea is quick workouts to build lean mass and a balanced diet. It's definitely a safe plan too. The workouts are simple. Monday is chest, Wednesday is back and shoulders and legs, Friday is arms (bicepts and tricepts)

You do three different exercises for each muscle group. Six reps for each exercise. The reps go from 12, to 10, then 8, 6, 4 then 12 again. The first set of 12 is a warm up set. You use about 40% of your Max weight that you can lift. For instance if you do dumbell benchs with 75lbs in each hand, you would only do about 30lbs for your first 12. Then add weight gradually each time until you get to your MAX for the last 4. You have 2 minute rest in between each set. But for the last set of 12 reps, you take off 20% of your max and hit it. Your workouts should not last more than 45 minutes. They are fast, semi intense but more resemble circuit training than weight training. I only used dumbells and some special Tricep bars and curl bars.

On the days you do not do weights you do 20 minutes cardio. And on one of the cardio days you do abs. Sunday is a free day. You eat what you want and do not exercise. For Cardio, you start off warmup for 2 minutes. Then every 2 minutes you increase your pace until you do 2 minutes of maximum pace. Then slow it back down to warm up pace. Then again, every 2 minutes you go up until it's time to go back down. This helps gets to your THR (target heart rate) better and is more condusive to burning fat instead of muscle.

For th diet, it's quite simple. Your diet is broken down into three categories. Carbs, Proteins, and Veggies.

You should have two veggies every day, but you need 6 carbs and 6 proteins every day. Proteins can be, fish, chicken, lobster, buffalo, beef, etc..

Carbs are, corn, potato, pasta, wheat bread (no white), etc..

Veggies are green beans, spinach, carrots, etc...Be careful certain beans are carbs.

Your portion size is critical. You get one portion of each food for a meal. The portion should be abot the size of your closed fist.

My typical meal was piece of chicken, baked potato, and peas. Another key is water. Drink as much water as you can. Water will thin you out more than you will ever imagine.

My first week, dude, I couldn't stay off the toilet...lol. Also, your free days will be like a religious experience. I had no cravings, I was never hungry, but I loved my Sundays. You can make whatever day you want free, just as long as its only one day. You will find yourself not even wanting certain things anymore, but I made sure I gorged myself on my free day.

It was the best plan I have ever seen. I recommended this plan to so many people and they ALL lost weight. Nobody failed at it. It's a no brainer. Basically, when you look at mammals as a whole, look how they are. A bear eats large meals every once in awhile, so they have lots of fat...slow metabolism. Now look at a horse. A horse grazes, eats small meals, many meals, all day. Much leaner animal. Both are strong, but one is much much leaner than the other. Same goes for humans. Eat smaller meals more frequently and you boost your metabolism. Add the training and BAM...the weight peels off.

Hope it works out for you... I have to get back to working out. It's been about five years since I did that diet and am back up to 160lbs. But I haven't worked out or watched what I ate for five years, so not too bad. I am still pretty lean, just a little sloppier than I was before. Also, I did all my workouts at home. Purchased a few dumbells and a cheap bench that had a leg curl machine. So, you dont have to spend tons of money either for it to work. After four weeks though, change your routines. Do different exercises to challeng your muscles. They get used to what you are doing rather fast. So I always added new exercise motions to my workouts on a monthly basis.

You do 3 months on and 1 month off. 3 momths on and 1 month off. Do that until you get where you want to be, then just do regular workouts, cardio, and sensible diet and you will keep the weight off.

BTW, the free day is important. A lot of people think they will lose faster if they skip the free day, not so. You actually do yourself harm.

When the body doesn't get large amounts of fat it tends to store it...it goes into "malnutrition" mode and want to store fat...just like a bear. By eating junk one day a week, you keep your body from shutting down and storing fat. So it will use the fat for a lower form of energy instead of storing.

Just wanted to mention that.

You're right on the money. I majored in physical Ed and I couldn't have said better than that. Meals are the hardest part to put together, especially when it comes to protein and strecthing your 6 x meals for the day. Thank, G*D for free day (cheat day) because I'm a sugar junkie, I need to get my fix on that day.

Your workout plan is an excellent example of building muscles and burning fats. My strength training is split of into 4 days (cause I work 3 x 12 hr shifts) I do 4-5 sets of 15 (warm up), 15, 12, 12, & 10 which consist chest/back, legs/calves, shoulder/arms, and traps/neck. I do 45-60 min cardio every day (step machine rules) combined w/ super set crunches, with a 3-5 lbs medicane ball & crunch machine.

In 6 months I shed (or pooped) about 15-20 lbs of fat and gained 5-10 lbs of muscles, and the strength to go with it.

This year, I'm just going for the LEAN look, because it's hard to maintain huge muscles. I have to eat like 1 gram of protein per body weight to maintian muscle mass.

I will definetly incorporate your plan into my workout, thanks for sharing your plan.

No problem bud, I am jumping back on it staring April 1st. I have been a slug for the last five years, and am very lucky I am not a big fat pig. Luckily I still drink a lot of water and at least do a lot of walking.

Like I said about the free days, my first one was a religious experience.

I know that Bill Phillips used to have a website for this program at www.bodyforlife.com I am unsure if he still does it or not.

I agree about keeping lean is easier than keeping bulked up. It's so hard to keep your muscles from adapting to your workouts, and people end up getting depressed if they see their muscles shrink even the slightest. You have to have some serious dedication to go for huge mass gains.

With the meals, I found myself preparing three meals and doing three low carb proteins shakes (at least 30 grams per shake) and would just eat an apple for my carb.

I forgot to also mention that egg beaters is a great protein for the morning. I would eat equivalent to 4 eggs every morning with two pieces of wheat bread. Then would have my two chicken meals at other times of the day and slip in the shakes or bars in between. It just made it easier, cuz man, I could not imagine cooking 6 times a day! And I am home being self employed.....lol.

Good luck...
