Hi folks, I think I purchased a (nonmodded) XBox. After booting up, there is a boot screen with "SmartXX" (Build 3335) an two bioses: 1. Original Bios and 2. M7 MOD Bios.

Foes anyone know what kind of bios is that M7 Mod Bios? Should I update it? If yes where can I get a new one? I changed the small HDD with a new 1TB WD and got an Error 7. Does this refer to the (oldfashioned) M7 MOD Bios?
The XBox is I from 2003 an was modded in rhis year...

Its modded and chipped by the sound of it.

I'm not qualified to advise on the SmartXX chip but the BIOS M7 MOD is likely a customised Evox M7 series.

From the description I'm assuming you have a menu screen and can choose either to use the original MS BIOS (1) or the M7 MOD (2) one. Pretty standard set up I'm guessing for use when XBL was available.

Evox M7 is old, there are two updated versions since M8 and M8+. If you're wanting to put in a larger HDD you will definitely need to update it to the latter first. The Evox M7 BIOS is practically the same otherwise except it doesn't support the v1.6b Xbox.

The date and that mean your Xbox could be any version from v1.1 to v1.4.

Wait on someone more knowledgeable about the SmartXX chip before doing anything. But check this out for a description of what your chip probably includes:-

Thanks ArchAngle for your information! Yesterday I changed the HDD to 1 TB with HeXen 2018....eberything runs fine...even with the old M7 Mod Bios 😉

So I wait for further advice and try to read/find information about getting SmartXX OS updated and about the Evo bioses...especially sources from there I can get the files.

As said the Evox M7 is very little different from M8/8+.

You've probably been lucky that the particular M7 MOD BIOS had LBA48 support. According to the reliable sources only particular versions of M7 included that but if you've had no problems with the 1TB HDD install the 'MOD' probably was the inclusion of that.

Have you checked the extended partitions F:\ and G:\ (if used)?

You need to be quite sure they've been correctly formatted for the right cluster size. HeXEn 2018 probably addressed the issue but previous versions used an older formatting tool which had issues with larger HDDs/partitions.

Best to use XBPartitioner v1.3 (must be this version) to check.

If there is an ER (ErroR) against either extended partition 6 or 7 (F and G) then they must be correctly re-formatted. If you do not and the partition cluster size is wrong when you exceed the content limit the partition will corrupt.

Evrything seems fine, both partitions are formatted correctly. My main task is to update the M7-Mod bios. But I did not find a way doing this. I did not find a kind of SmartXX menue to search for a bios online, eg...

Is there a website where I can find some working bios files with my SmartXX V2 chip?

Installer discs, HeXEn in particular is recommended, have all the flashing tools you need and a good selection of BIOS, including custom Evox M8+ versions.

But as said you really need advice from somebody who knows the SmartXX chip and about the best way to replace the existing BIOS.
