is it just because it is the most expensive?
it seems like a lot of people are happy with the x-ice, and thats proabably what ill go with, but just curious why bmmods promotes the xx2 chip instead.

You'll note they also "recommend" the Xenium ICE chip.
I personally don't think it makes any difference nowadays which chip you pick (staying away from the clones of course) because they all work in very similar ways. Unless you have some very specific reason for picking a particular chip (like an obscure feature that no one else supports), for most people it probably doesn't matter that much.
I personally chose the SmartXX v2 chip, but I can see that I would have been just as happy with a Xenium or Xecuter because my needs were very simple.

Actually, they are recommending the SmartXX due to the lack of issues with its OS. The Xenium Ice in the last few months has been very buggy.
Granted, this is from the initial install, but none the less I have a feeling Nick and Brian are sick of giving RMA's for Xenium Chips.
Three of the last four Xenium Ice modchips that I have purchased from BMmods have given me issues. I get an Amber LED and a Green flashing eject light.
Since they sit on the other end of the spectrum and get to see this happening to a plethora of installers, of course they are going to want their customers to purchase something that they feel more confident with.
Or, maybe they make more money on them.....ha.
Actually, it's probably a bit of both. But, dealing with BMmods and getting to know the crew...they truly believe in customer satisfaction and I am sure they just want you to be happy with your experience. For whatever reason, sometimes people blame their install problems on the person who sold them their chip, not the company that made it. After all, when you buy a car and it's a lemon you give your salesman hell...not the CEO of General Motors.

Dont get me wrong, the Xenium Ice is still a strong chip. With the support that you have here, you wont have any problems if you decide to run with that chip. I will still install over 30 of those chips per month.
Once you have the OS updated to the 2.0.1 you are home free. Plus, I would venture to say that it's a particular lot that may be quirky like this.
The SmartXX chip on the other hand is flawless after a correct install.
The thing is, if you don't know any better and you do a correct install on a Xenium Ice that has an OS that is acting up you will chase a ghost for hours. Which could result in you actually screwing up a perfect install. If you install your chip and have a negative result, post first and we'll help or at least be able to point you in the right direction.

Yes I have the new OS for the Xenium Ice and it's been stable since first powerup. Love the thing. Re-energized my whole Xbox! It's not collecting dust anymore. _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

I have installed quite a few SmartXX's now. It's a super powerful chip, but in all honesty some of the features are probably superfluous for most users. I will say it has a lot of features to it though!
I just wish the interface was as nice as the Xenium Ice's is.

I just thought it necessary to clarify this for you guys...
The main reason we recommend the SmartXX over other modchips is the 1 year manufacturer's warranty. We fully support this warranty as the Official USA SmartXX Warranty Center; no other Modchip manufacturer has a warranty, period.
