Hi amiga1200, thank you and SPPV for all of your advise.
It just so happens that I was using the very same video guide when I first used XBOXHDM. Do you think an older version of XBOXHDM would work better? As the comp I'm using is an old Windows 98.
I'm starting the think the issue could be with the Hard drive itself or the adapter that I'm using. Although CHIMP did not seem to have a problem recognizing and locking the drive. I don't know, I'm really at a loss. But thanks again for all of your help, I'm really grateful

^^ chances are it's the ide to sata converter!
the compatibility using xbhdm (and on the xbox itself) with those things are a nightmare! online searching may reveal results for a distro selling xbox/xbhdm compatible units?
as for chimp, i've had very little experience so i can't advise there nor endorse it's uses!
the computer should be okay if it's pre-2000 model! (win98 OEM)
...
i'm going out on a limb here but it looks like a possible bad disk write?!
.......
hopefully, the REAL expert here can better assist you?!

Hi everyone, I've been scouring Google for some answers to my problem and have found that other people have also had issues with getting XBOXHDM to work with SATA drives. One of the solutions I have found was to use a boot disc called HeXen. Has anyone here had any experience with it?
Also I have seen guides of XBOXHDM where they boot the xbox up first to get the error 12 screen, and then they hook it up to the pc. I guess they do this in order to unlock it first? Could this be the reason I'm having so much trouble with XBOXHDM? Should I have been doing this?
As of now I'm currently shopping for a new SATA to IDE converter. And hopefully a IDE hard drive will rear its head on EBAY for a good price soon.
thank you all again for your help, I can honestly say that I've learned a lot.

(never gets old seeing that, thanks)
....
xbhdm has been know to fail (most of the time) when it comes to using sata converters/hdd's!
i've not used 'hexen' (heimdall's engineering disk) in that capacity...just on the console!
it's a professional tool not for the feint of heart! (i had no issue with little exp i had but i can't advise based on that exp)
................
the 'error' provokation you refer to is called a 'hotswap'...
if the name isn't enough to scare you, dunno what is?!?!
..........
again, something dangerous i have little experience in....
look at his video clip, it's done by the man himself! (NOT MY WORK, disclaimers are-us!)

Hi everyone,
I've given up on the SATA drive and bought a WD 320g IDE hard drive.
I tried CHIMP with this drive and it worked! so Amiga was right. I really think ihe problem was the SATA IDE converter that I was using. Thanks again for all of your help!

good thing it's sorted now!
keep all the parts (sata hdd and converter) that couldn't get used in the end to one side...
there's changes on the horizon and it's possible that sata hdd's get a standardised lookin as far as the next 'xbhdm' is concerned, possible OS support (xp/7) meaning, all that's needed is a usb/sata hdd and bang, job done!
keep your eyes peeled on the 'testers required' thread, it gets updated with progress reports! (fingers crossed to wider supporting xbhdm?!) _________________ to all my friends... farewell and all the best to future prosperity... and remember, be excellent to each other!

Thanks for the advice Amiga , I really do hope that happens as it would be much easier to get a 500gb SATA drive over a IDE counterpart. Also, do you know if it is possible to put a boot program of SID Babylon on a USB instead of a dvd? I'm trying to install XBMC as a dash and install a few emulators, but I misplaced the BABYLON boot dvd SPPV suggested I make. Is this possible or if not could you please point me in the right direction?
Thanks you Amiga and SPPV for all of the help you've given me.

okay, as your console is in a MODDED state, simply get the clean iso from the SPPV babylon archive and write it to disk using IMGBURN, set write speeds to 8x and GO!
once the disk is written, cold boot that disk from powerup and take it from there!
have fun!
[edit]
scratch that above!
if you don't have the original archive, i'm not so sure at that point?!
the only usb stuff of SPPV's are like splinter cell mc exploits but with bells and whistles! (a full multimedia package as opposed to the standard 8m mc default packages)
sorry about that! _________________ to all my friends... farewell and all the best to future prosperity... and remember, be excellent to each other!

You can run Babylon via USB or DVD or HDD. For USB use the included CXBOX tools to extract the ISO and put the resulting folder on the root of your PCs C drive then run Babylon1.exe and pick USB Installer 2 or 4 GB. When its done use the included Xplorer360 to load the folders onto your USB. Warning USB installs are SLOOOOOOOOOOOW
Or do it the easy way and just install Babylon on your XBOX. Extract the ISO and FTP the resulting folder to your XBOX F\Apps folder, reboot. It will now show in apps in your main menu, click it and proceed.

Installing BABYLON onto the HDD worked perfectly SPPV, thanks. I've bugged you and Amiga for over a week and I thank you both for your time and patience. it's such a relief to finally have the old box modded and running. At the moment I'm working on installing emulators and BABYLON has done most of the hard work for me. What I'm trying to find out now is how to add box art and preview videos for each game on the emulators. Do they all work the same, or is this process different for each emulator?

i can honestly say, i'd fail answering that one but at a guess, each emu will have it's own standard of setup, the video codecs used for any prepackaged clips should be the same all round...i think?!
......
good luck! _________________ to all my friends... farewell and all the best to future prosperity... and remember, be excellent to each other!

For box art and such you want the Xtras Installers
I've been wondering where to get all those cool video previews from. Now I do.
It looks like I'd need to burn these extracted files to a dvd considering one of your videos had UnleashX launch the installer from the dvd.
Is it also possible instead to simply FTP all the artwork, video previews and old-video game commercials to certain folders within the emuxtra emulator folders?

All can be ran from HDD, burning isnt a must. Each has a read me telling you how to install it. As for FTP yes you can FTP the Xtras to your XBOX. All Madmab emus will have a media folder, thats where the Xtras goes. There are multiple Xtras folders within the media folder like boxart, previews, commercials etc.
Bigby also had a site up for download of the full packs. Cant remember the address but it was in his sig at Xtras. Rapscallion.com or something like that.

EDIT by SPPV
Its a big download, but I'm going to try it out to see if it will work for PCSXBOX. Thanks again everone
