The hard drive in my xbox is completely dead. It wont even spin up any more. I have a maxtor 80gb that I'd like to replace it with. Is there a way to add it with out adding a mod chip since I cant get the original files off the old hard drive?

If u have your EEPROM at least and your whole old HDD on your comp then you can. If you only have your EEPROM then you will need to download the MS dash files and put them in the xboxHDM C:\ spot. You wont have your old game saves and such but it will work. Then use xboxHDM to make a new HDD. If your don't have your EEPROM your going to have to buy a new xbox and mod that one, or buy a mod chip, throw in new drive, format it and your ready to go. You wont be able to lock it so you will always have to have the mod chip on and wont be able to go onto xbox live but it will work again. _________________

You MIGHT be able to do a hotswap if the BIOS is at least sending the unlock command. It's a ditch effort, but after that, your only option (if you have no EEPROM backup is to use a chip. _________________ "That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger."
